Principal Ponderings
As I mentioned in the WOW last week, this past Monday we hosted our STEM Recertification Ceremony. Richard Woods, Georgia's School Superintendent and Dr. Calvin J. Watts, Superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools, were both in attendance, as well as our 5th grade students and teachers, STEM partners, and many of our STEM cheerleaders from the district office. It was an amazing day showcasing White Oak Elementary and all of our innovative STEM initiatives. Everyone was highly impressed with the STEM instruction your children engage in each day. We would love for you to hear all of the wonderful accolades and enjoy the ceremony. Please check out a video of the celebration linked below.
This is an exciting and busy time of year, but I want to assure you that high levels of teaching and learning are occurring each day. This week students will begin engaging in their District Assessments. We will also be doing many culminating learning activities as we bring the semester to a close. Staying in their routines, including a good night’s sleep, go a long way to helping our students to finish strong. Thank you for your support.
In Partnership and Service,
Stacey Pickett

Club members are excited provide our community with the opportunity to enjoy student designed holiday decorations. This sale supports the club with additional funds to purchase supplies like printer filament.

Holiday Parties
One of the holiday traditions we love is getting to see so many families join us here at White Oak for our winter parties. We want to be sure to adhere to our new safety procedures, while still allowing you to join us for the parties. With that in mind, we will have a set schedule for parties, with only one grade level occurring at a time. See schedule below.
This will allow us to have extra staff to be on hand to check identification and uphold our safety measures. Please make sure to come early to check in and have patience with our staff as they work hard to get everyone down to the classrooms.
Only parents/guardians and those on the emergency contact list for a student will be allowed to attend the winter party, so check your emergency contact list in the Parent Portal. If you need to add someone to your emergency contact list because they will be attending the party, please follow the instructions linked here. If you have questions or need support, please email Kathleen McGrath.

Character Strong - December Family Newsletter
We’re kicking off a new month in our Character Strong program with our next character trait – Empathy. Students will be learning about empathy in Health as well as all month long during their morning meetings. We are also partnering with a local hospital to help spread some cheer by making cards for patients that will be hospitalized during the holidays. We’ve included the Empathy Family newsletter so you can reinforce this concept at home. Thank you for partnering with us as we teach and model empathy for our students.
