Letter from the Principal
To Our Teeland Families:
Our TMS Kindness Matters Food Drive was a success! Many families brought in food to donate to our own families in need. Our Teeland community is incredibly generous and caring!
As we look towards the end of Quarter 3, we have about 10 weeks of school left. That may seem like a lot, but part of that time will be spent doing school-wide testing for our Alaska PEAKS assessment and MAP, (Measures of Academic Progress). Since the secondary level has classes every other week, your student may only be meeting in some classes for 4-5 more weeks. It is important that healthy students be in school every day participating in class, or actively engaged as an at-home learner. The Friday remote classes are just as vital to your student’s grade as the in-school lessons. We have some supports in place that you may want to seek out if your student is struggling:
1. After school Study Hall, 2:30-3:30, every Tuesday and Thursday. The office has permission slips.
2. Friday school for students that have an IEP or 504 Plan. Contact your students case manager for more information.
3. Access to Moby Math or ALEKS, computer-based math programs for extra math support, not linked to grades, but available to all students. Seek out more information from your student’s math teacher if needed.
4. Sora, an online library, available to all Mat-Su students to check out e-books.
Contact your student’s school counselor to make a plan for success if needed.
Spring Break is March 6th - March 15th. There will not be any school for at-home, or in-school, students. If you are traveling out of state, please know and follow the state recommendations for COVID testing and social distancing upon return. The district is currently following the same guidelines as the state for travel. We truly count on our families to screen their students for any signs of illness and trust that you are working with us in our effort to keep everyone healthy and in classes.
Next year Teeland Middle School will not be eligible as a Title I school. This means that for two consecutive years, we have fallen below the 40% for students qualifying for Free or Reduced Lunch. If those numbers are a true representation of our community, then this is good news! It would mean that our community is doing better financially as a whole. This year TMS had a Title I budget of $132,000.00. This money was used to fund a teacher, our Family Engagement Nights, technology, equipment for our new Home Ec. Room, and many other student supplies. With the loss of this program, we also lose that additional funding. Let the fund-raisers begin!!
As mentioned in last month’s letter, we will not be hosting an 8th grade Promotion. We will instead offer our 8th grade students a Celebration Assembly and BBQ. Parents wanting to view the assembly will have a live link available, or access to the recorded event. Please reach out to us if you have any questions, 352-7500.

TMS Kindsness Matters Food Drive
Way to go, Titans! Our food drive was a huge success! A total of 1,412 food items were donated and will be distributed to 12 Teeland families!
Our 8th grade students were rock stars and won the grade level competition by bringing in the most items! National Junior Honor Society will be providing the 8th graders with a fabulous prize for their accomplishment.
Mrs. Hinds, Ms. Pridgen, and Mr. Carté will host "Ice Cream for All" during lunches this Thursday for meeting the 1000 item school-wide goal!
