Open Enrollment for the 2018-2019 School Year:
Wisconsin’s inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. The open enrollment application period for the 2018-2019 school year is February 5 - April 30, 2018 @ 4:00p.m. Here is a link to the open enrollment application https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment. After the open enrollment window closes on April 30, 2018, the Ashwaubenon School Board will determine who is approved or denied and then notify families of their status. Those approved will receive 2018-2019 registration information, specific to Cormier, in late May. You must complete the Cormier School registration to be enrolled at Cormier for the 2018-2019 school year. If you have any questions regarding open enrollment please call Jennifer Bower, 492-2905 ext. 1002.

Outdoor/Indoor Clothing
With the cold weather upon us, please make sure you send your child to school every day with outdoor clothing (snow pants, boots, mittens, hat, and a warm coat). Please label all clothing with your child’s full name. We will have outdoor recess as long as the temperature and wind chill stay above zero degrees. Please dress your child in layers so they may take a layer off or add a layer if they get too hot or too cold during the school day. Always make sure your child has a pair of shoes to change into once they are inside the building. (Feet get very hot in boots if they wear them all day.)

More detailed information is available on our website at www.ashwaubenon.k12.wi.us/ptconferences.cfm.

Turn in Your Box Tops
Our next Box Tops submission date is Thursday, March 1. Please have any Box Tops you have at home turned into school by Tuesday, February 20, so they can be counted, bagged, and sent by the due date. Thank you for your support for this program. Just a reminder that we no longer can accept milk caps.
Vision Screening
The Brown County Health Department came to Cormier School on Wednesday, January 10 to provide vision screenings for all 4K and 5K students. Vision screening routinely tests stereopsis (how your child’s eyes work together) up to age 10 and distance vision. If your child already wears glasses, they were tested with their glasses on to make sure the glasses are working properly. Near vision and color vision can be tested upon request only. The screening does detect several eye problems common to these age groups. However, it is not a substitute for a complete professional eye exam. A child who passes may still have other visual problems. If symptoms such as squinting, headaches, frowning, or frequent blinking are noted, a complete eye exam is recommended. Red, swollen, or encrusted eyelids indicate a medical problem requiring a physician’s treatment.
If your child did not pass the screening, a letter was sent home recommending an examination by an eye doctor. The National Society to Prevent Blindness recommends that children have a professional eye exam prior to entering school and up to every other year after that.

LIBRARY NEWS
Call Deb Danen or Kathy Rolling at 448-2875, ext. 7113, for more information regarding Cormier’s library.
Book Returns:
We are extremely pleased with the enthusiasm the students have demonstrated when coming to the library and the care they are taking with their library books. You as parents can make it even more enjoyable by reading the book to your child and having them return it to the library on their assigned day. Here is the library schedule.
Monday--Mrs. Foote and Mrs. Johnson
Tuesday--Ms. Riederer
Wednesday--Mrs. Pavlik, Miss Estel, and Mrs. Sudol
Thursday--Mrs. Skogg, Miss Banks, Miss Carstens, Mrs. Brauer, Mrs. Crutcher, and Mrs. Miller
Friday--Mrs. Kurowski, Mrs. Moran, and Mrs. Elder
Library Books and Snow Don't Mix:
In order to protect your child’s library book please use the “Bee a Reader” book bag. We continue to remind students how important it is to take good care of their books. Please discuss this with your child at home also. Thank you for your help.
Birthday Book Club:
The Birthday Book Club is a wonderful way to recognize your child's birthday. If your child donates a book to the library for his/her birthday, your child's name will be added to the Birthday Book Club wall in the library and a bookplate with your son's or daughter's name will be placed inside the cover of the donated book. We will also show his/her class the book your child has donated. Having your child donate a book to the library is a beautiful way for them to understand the act of giving. This month we would like to thank the following students for donating books to our library collection: Bryce in Mrs. Pavlik’s p.m. class. If you are wondering what to donate, the library could use new hardcover Valentine’s Day or Easter stories. We also have an expanded list of donation ideas posted outside the library door for parents to take.
Sticker Chart – Prizes Needed
To promote positive behavior when classes come to the library they will have the opportunity to earn a sticker on the library behavior chart by being kind, safe, and responsible in the library. When a class has collected four stickers they will receive a reward — a prize from the treasure box! We would appreciate donations of simple prizes for our prize box. Due to health concerns, we appreciate new or cleaned items only.
2nd RIF Distribution
Cormier’s second of three RIF distributions will be on Tuesday, February 6th, and all students will again be able to select a book to keep for their very own. We will be celebrating with the theme of “Franklin LOVES Reading”. All students and staff are encouraged to wear green on that day.

Open Enrollment Application Time!
What is Open Enrollment?
Open enrollment is a program that allows parents to apply for their child to attend school in a school district other than the one in which they reside. Applications for open enrollment will be accepted from February 5, 2018 through 4:00 pm on April 30, 2018.
Who is required to apply for Open Enrollment?
· Families that have moved out of the district between February 2017 and February 2018 and want their child(ren) to continue to attend school in the Ashwaubenon School District during the 2018-19 school year.
· Families that are anticipating a move to another district and would like their child(ren) to continue to attend the Ashwaubenon School District during the 2018-19 school year.
· Families that currently reside in another school district but would like their child(ren) to attend the Ashwaubenon School District during the 2018-19 school year.
· Families that reside in another district with a child(ren) currently open enrolled into Ashwaubenon must open enroll siblings that are not open enrolled and want to attend school in Ashwaubenon during the 2018-19 school year. Every child in a family must be open enrolled individually. Having a child(ren) currently open enrolled and attending does not automatically approve every child in the family. Families with children new to the district must apply for open enrollment even if they have siblings currently open enrolled.
You do not have to apply for Open Enrollment if…
If your child is currently open enrolled and attending school in Ashwaubenon, you do not have to re-apply for open enrollment for that child. Ashwaubenon does not require students currently attending schools in the Ashwaubenon School District through open enrollment to re-apply. Once they apply, are accepted and continue to attend our schools, they are open enrolled through graduation. However, if the open enrolled child has a sibling(s) new to the district in 2018-19, the sibling(s) must apply for open enrollment in February.
How do you apply for Open Enrollment?
The preferred method of applying for open enrollment is through the on-line application at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment. The on-line application will be available from Monday, February 5, 2018 through 4:00 pm on Monday, April 30, 2018. There will be a link to this site on our district website beginning February 5th. If you do not have access to the internet, paper applications will be accepted. Paper applications must be submitted to Jennifer Bower at the district office no earlier than February 5th and no later than 4:00 pm on April 30th. A postmark does not meet this requirement.
If you have any questions about Open Enrollment or need a paper application sent to you, please contact Jennifer Bower at the District Office at 492-2905 ext. 1002.
