The Mustang Minute

Principal's Message

Last Wednesday I had the privilege of attending a reception at the Dallas Museum of Art, for the "Young Masters" exhibit. This exhibit is part of a grant that GHS is a part of through the Edith O' Donnell foundation. Over 800 students submitted works and only 60 were chosen for the "Young Masters" exhibition. Grapevine High School had 5 selected and are currently displayed in the museum. One of the most powerful pieces in education is for students to create work that is seen by an authentic audience, not just in the classroom. To know that your work is hanging in the same place as Manet and Matisse. I can not think of a more powerful display of an authentic audience then having your work seen by thousands of visitors as they pass through the DMA each week.

If you have an opportunity to attend this show it will be running through April 17th at the Dallas Museum of Art.

Senior Parents:

Last week you should have received an e-mail from Parchment. Parchment will be our new tool to electronically request your transcripts online. This is an effort to streamline the process for requesting official transcripts, GCISD and Grapevine High School have partnered with Parchment to send high school transcripts electronically, securely and confidentially, to colleges and universities.

Your Senior received an email on their district email from Parchment last week. Current students are able to request transcripts for free until August 1, 2016, at which time they will be deemed as alumni and will be required to pay a small processing fee. If you have questions please let us know. Further information can be found on

GCISD to Host Bond Election Information Meetings

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is hosting a bond election meeting to provide voters and community members with information on the proposed package. On February 18, GCISD Trustees voted to call a $248.975 million bond election for Saturday, May 7, 2016.

“We are holding informational meetings at each of our middle schools to give members of the community the opportunity to choose the most convenient time or location to learn more about the bond proposition,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent.

The next meeting will be held at:

  • April 5 at Cross Timbers MIddle School, 2301 Pool Rd, Grapevine

The one hour meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the campus cafeteria. During the meeting, district leaders will give an overview of the proposed projects, explain the community-led selection process, where and how to find specific information about each campus and facility, discuss the tax rate, and answer questions from community members.

Early voting is April 25 - May 3. GCISD residents age 18 and up can register to vote through April 7. Detailed information on the bond proposal can be found at

AP Testing Information: 2016

AP testing is May 2nd – 13th. Times: 7:45 and 12:00. Students riding the bus need to make alternate arrangements for transportation on their testing days.

We will have a pre-coding session at the end of April where Mrs. Henry will give you specific details about the testing – where to go, what to bring, etc., and you will fill out a bubble sheet and candidate pack. If you miss this meeting, you will need to go by and see Mrs. Lynch in the front office prior to your first test.

If you do not take the AP exam, you are required to take a district exam, which will count as your semester exam grade. If you had Government 1st semester, we will go back and change your grade to reflect the district exam. This testing will take place on a different day and time from the AP exam. Mrs. Henry will let you know that schedule in May. This test is an actual AP exam with multiple choice and free response with the same time length as the regular AP exam.

Any questions, concerns, or requests need to be directed to Catherine Henry, Assistant Principal at

Prom is May 7th at The Worthington Hotel

Tickets are now on sale! Please see Mrs. Gunn before or after school or during lunches to purchase tickets. The cost is $85 per person through April 15th. Ticket price will be $90 from April 18th-29th. If your date does not attend GHS, you will need to obtain a date form from Mrs. Gunn.

While there is no specific dress code for prom, it is still a school event and Students need to be cognizant of their attire for this event. We encourage you to consider buying/renting appropriate formal attire fitting for a formal school event like prom. For our young women, we ask that the dresses not be too high or low cut or revealing in nature. For our young men, we ask that they consider wearing tuxes or suits appropriate for an elegant celebration like prom. Prom is a celebration of a Senior's four years in high school and we are excited to see everyone looking their best on Saturday, May 7th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Terri Carter.
