UPDATE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Clark Mershon
THANKFUL
Next week is one of my favorite weeks of the year. As a principal, I cherished this time of the year and encouraged our school community to do the same. Each year, one of our Thanksgiving traditions was to play Gary Mayabb's "Eat Like a Champion" video schoolwide. Gary taught history and was the head wrestling coach at Staley. He is now the manager of Greco-Roman USA Wrestling. Take a few minutes and watch this humorous yet powerful reminder of why we celebrate Thanksgiving. From all of us here in the MoASSP office (Doug & Mary), we are thankful for the opportunity to serve each of you as you continue to make a positive difference in your school. We will take a break from the Messenger next week.
TRAVELS THIS WEEK
Doug and I enjoyed attending the Northeast meeting on Tuesday in Macon. About forty principals attended and heard about the Monroe City HS PRIDE Program. For more information, you can contact the Principal, John Fortney. On Wednesday, we attended the South Central meeting in St. James. The program was presented by Lindenwood U. Yesterday, our travels took us to Warrensburg for the Central meeting. About 30 principals discussed advisory programs. Jennifer Corson from Leeton, James Frank, Crest Ridge, and Brandon Harding, Cole Camp, shared their programs. Principals also heard an excellent Career and Technical program from Jake Fowler, Director of Clinton Technical School. Being involved in your local regional meetings is a network that each school leader needs. Find out when the next meeting is in your region and make a point to attend.

DR. TYRONE HOWARD OPENS 1ST ANNUAL SCHOOL WELLNESS SYMPOSIUM
According to Tyrone, it's time for us to move from safe spaces to brave spaces. Brave spaces encourage dialogue, hold people accountable, and are often uncomfortable. It's work that must be done on behalf of our students.
