A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL SCRIVO
We miss seeing our students and Scotch families very much. We are experiencing a time that is difficult and unpredictable. This new normal may feel challenging and scary at times, but just know that you are not alone. Reach out to your child's teacher or me at any time if you are in need of anything. Please know that we are here for you. We are in this together and we will get through this together.
Let's stay virtually connected by celebrating with another Scotch Spirit Week. We hope your student/s will engage in this activity all month long. This is just something for fun to help them stay creative. Please continue to share your student/s photos with us.
Parents, please don't forget to join us for our first Scotch Virtual Connect. I will try and answer many of the questions you have on your mind during this virtual time. There will be two opportunities for parents to participate. The date and times for both meetings are listed below and the Zoom links will follow in an email and newsletter update to parent/s next week.
Friday, April 17th at 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE: By Josh from SmartSocial.com
Are you allowing extra screen time these days? Many families are - and it’s OK. There are some wonderful online tools to keep kids engaged in learning and to help them socialize and have fun with friends. But I also want to remind parents about some online safety tips you should keep in mind while schools are closed.

CLOUD LEARNING UPDATE
To comply with the regulations established by the Zoom Corporation, we are asking parents to give consent for their child to use Zoom as part of our Cloud Learning Initiative. Our educators have been given clear guidelines about how Zoom conferencing must be used, including always having multiple students in a conference call, using the record feature as needed and to encourage parent supervision. We have found this tool to be very useful and user-friendly for our students and families.
Please complete the form linked here if you DO NOT want your child to use Zoom during our Cloud Learning Initiative. This form is OPT OUT only! Please direct any questions you may have regarding Zoom or our Cloud Learning Initiative to Deanna Barash, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, deanna.barash@wbsd.org.
NETIQUTTE
When anyone engages online, it's essential that everyone behaves appropriately. West Bloomfield students and staff must comply with the Student Code of Conduct and Staff Handbook when it comes to communicating online. As a quick reminder, when you're online, be sure to:
- Use respectful behavior and language.
- Stick to appropriate topic discussions.
- Send only appropriate video transmissions.
- Use only appropriate icon, emoji, and avatar submissions.
- Wear school appropriate clothing if you are attending meetings via video.
- Be honest and do not plagiarize or copy others’ work -- in other words, use academic integrity.
- Not falsify information about yourself or impersonate others online.
When everyone remembers to act kindly, show consideration for others, and treat one another online as you wish to be treated in person, we'll all be able to focus on learning.
MEALS FOR CLOUD LEARNERS
We are committed to providing access to the nutrition West Bloomfield students need during their education outside the traditional classroom.
- Meals are FREE to students.
- Meals are available to anybody 18 years old or younger.
Meals are available to anybody up to age 26 who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by a state or local public educational agency.
- Preorders are REQUIRED
- Students do NOT have to be present claim their meal. Parents or sibling may pick up meals for all children in the household.
- Meals should be consumed right away or properly refrigerated to maintain food safety.
Contact the food service department at (248) 865-6732 for more information.
TALKING TO CHILDREN ABOUT COVID - 19
During uncertain times, children look to the adults around them for reassurance. When discussing COVID-19 with your children, there are several things to remember that will allow for an open discussion that should reassure children and provide them with a sense of control, as well as the knowledge they need to protect themselves and others.
The district's School Mental Health Specialist, Lynne Swerhone is here with the latest entry in our Parent Blog series with tips for families when having conversations about COVID-19.
MEDITATION SESSIONS
The GWB Community Coalition has prepared meditation videos to continue the live meditation classes taking place at the high school this spring. The videos are available at the link below and the password is meditate.

5TH GRADE LITTLE CAESAR FUNDRAISER UPDATE
The decision was made to cancel the Little Caesar's Pizza Kit orders. Please review the following for refund information.
Online Orders: Little Caesars has facilitated refunds for online orders. The credit card used for the original order is the one that will receive the credit (refund).
Manual Orders:The Scotch PTO has issued checks for the manual orders. Each check was made payable to the parent/guardian name that was listed on the order form. Checks will be mailed to the student's address listed in Powerschool. If you have any questions please contact Kelly Robrahn, PTO Treasurer, at robrahnfam@gmail.com.
After the parent/guardian receives their credit card refund or deposits their refund check, we ask that they reimburse their individual Pizza Kit buyers, whether by Venmo, PayPal, check, cash, etc. Included with the mailed check will be a copy of the associated manual order form, which includes buyer names and sales $.
Please contact Stephanie Schepper (schepper79@yahoo.com) or Kelly Robrahn (robrahnfam@gmail.com) with any questions. Thanks for your patience & understanding.
