November Newsletter
Dear Desmares Families,
Welcome to November! It's been so nice to see the Fall foliage driving to school and while outside for recess. Our students are getting the full Fall experience this year! And for all the Philly Fans... this could not be a more exciting time for you! We would like to thank all of our parent volunteers and the PTO for a well orchestrated Walk-A-Thon and for the festivities during our Trunk or Treat event. We hope all those that attended were able to get a sneak peak at the Haunted Gym as well. A special thanks to Mr. Pfluge and Mrs. Fiske for volunteering their time to have students and parents get the added experience of our Haunted Gym at night! The Halloween Parade was amazing! Check out the Twitter feed for great pictures from the day.
Our teachers have been working in their grade level teams and with support teachers to break down the scores of our students on the NWEA MAP assessment. On, October 18th we met as a staff to dive deep into the data the class and individual reports revealed in order to better help us understand which standards and areas in our Math and Language Arts curriculum we can zoom in on to improve our instruction. Our afterschool meeting time and the November 8th Full Day Professional Development day is devoted to creating challenging learning opportunities for students to improve their skills in the areas where we struggled the most. Our population of students have different opportunities to continue their learning afterschool through the Title I and Title III ESL Afterschool Programs. These programs are designed for small groups of students to work with a teacher to meet them at their level of ability to work on Literacy Skills. Currently, we have 2 Cohorts of 40 students. The first Cohort will run from November 2, 2022 - February 2, 2023. The second session will run from February 8, 2023 - May 10, 2023, which is 20 sessions for each group. Our goal is to have as many students as possible attend an afterschool program to help accelerate their learning. Group sizes are dependent on the number of staff we have to work with our students. If you have any questions about these programs, please contact the main office at 908-284-7540.
Please take a close look at the school calendar below for changes in our school schedule. Remember to keep an eye on the weather and send your child to school with a jacket. We like to take the children outside, if at least for a fresh air walk. That said.... if you are missing a jacket or sweatshirt, please stop in to see the lost and found... it's growing with each day.
Enjoy the start of to beautiful Fall weather!

Attendance Matters!
Dear Families,
We are thankful!
During the month of November we focus on showing our gratitude and pride for our school community. We want to express our gratitude for everyone who has helped keep our students safe, healthy, present and learning. We thank:
● Our students and families who are persevering through hard times.
● Our teachers who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming place where students can learn.
● Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
We are grateful and proud of the welcoming environment that our staff and educators create for our students. We are also grateful and proud for the effort our parents put forth in working as a team to support our students. Our combined efforts help to ensure student academic success.
● As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us to help your child learn, thrive and succeed.
Sincerely,
Mark Masessa & Nydia Peake

We would like to give a warm welcome to Ms. Alexis Dausch our new nurse. Ms. Dausch is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University where she received her nursing degree. She continued her education at Rutgers University where she received her School Nursing Certificate in 2021. She comes to us with a vast knowledge of nursing ranging from providing care at an acute rehab facility for brain injuries to her new experiences as a school nurse. She has a total of 7 years of experience and is excited to continue her journey as a new Desmares Dolphin.
"Talk-a-Latte"
During the 2022-2023 school year, Dr. McGann will hold a Superintendent's Roundtable discussion at each school. These sessions are designed to open dialogue between my office and community members. The intent is to have an open dialogue with community members about issues that are important and on-the-mind of Flemington-Raritan residents. She is hopeful that events such as these help her build relations with parents, staff, and community members and assist her to keep a pulse on the community.
