Destination Imagination
Several students from Harrison Parkway participated in Destination Imagination (DI) this year. During this experience, these children had the opportunity to put their HSE21 skills to work in so many ways. The HSE School District has students from seven DI teams headed to Globals to compete against teams from 37 counties and 45 states. We recognize and congratulate the following HPE students who participated in Destination Imagination this year: Victoria Abel, Sam Anderson, Izabel Burris, Jackson Flora, Kyndal Funderburk, Charlie Harmon, Reagan Kim, and Owen Solis.
ISTEP Testing
ATTENTION 3rd and 4th GRADE PARENTS --The ISTEP, Part 2 will be administered from May 2nd - May 6th, 2016 at HPE. This portion of the testing will be completed on the computer. Your student's teacher knows the specific testing dates and times that your student will be testing.
Tips for Parents during ISTEP Week:
- Make sure that your child gets to bed on time. Research shows that being well rested helps students do better on tests.
- Your child should eat a healthy, high protein breakfast each morning.
- Make sure your child gets up early enough so that they do not feel rushed in the morning.
- Please DO NOT schedule any appointments during testing times. If a student comes in late to school, they must wait until the test is over before they can go to class.

Sand Creek Intermediate Orientation
Dear Fourth Grade Parents,
Next fall, your child will be a fifth grade student at Sand Creek Intermediate. Given that you may have some questions about the move to a different building, we will have an orientation session for all parents of current fourth grade students on Monday, May 16th. This program will begin at 7:00 p.m. and should last about one hour. Our orientation program will give parents a good opportunity to meet each other and some of our faculty. We will also provide a brief building tour at the end of the session. If you have a student with Special Education Services and desire an opportunity to meet briefly with some of our special education staff, they will be available prior to our all-parent meeting from 6:30 – 7:00 pm. The parent orientation is intended for parents only.
In addition, on Monday, May 16th, your son or daughter will ride a bus from their elementary school to Sand Creek Intermediate School for their student orientation. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end around 10:45 a.m. This orientation will give students the opportunity to meet new friends, interact with the Sand Creek staff, and tour the building. The student orientation is very similar to the orientation parents will experience on Monday night.
We hope that you can attend the parent orientation as this is an excellent opportunity for you to become comfortable with our building and learn more about the intermediate philosophy. We look forward to the exciting year ahead and for all of you to become an important part of the Sand Creek Intermediate family.
Sincerely,
Mr. Brent Farrell

A Note from the Nurse
Accidents happen during the day ranging from landing in a mud puddle, spilling milk at lunch or not making it to the rest room quick enough. Please – regardless of the grade level, pack your student an extra set of clothes in their backpack for those oopsie’s that occur during the day. The nurse's clinic has a very limited supply of clothes and sizes. My many thanks to those who have borrowed clothes and promptly returned them laundered!
Attendance Line Voicemail
If your child will be absent from school, please call the HPE Attendance Line by 9:00 a.m. at 915-4210. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, you may call the attendance line's voicemail anytime and leave a message. If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at leas one week prior to the absence.
Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.
Sign In Procedures
As a reminder, the sign in procedure at Harrison Parkway includes signing your child in or out using a computer. If you are signing your child out of school, please have your driver's license with you, as you will need it to complete the sign-out process.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the front of the drive by the school's front doors. Please have your child exit from the passenger side of all vehicles. Students should stay in their seatbelts/safety seats until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and your child is ready to get out of the car. Please only dismiss and receive your child at the front of the school. Do not release students from the back of the line so they mush walk past other cars releasing children. It is imperative that cars remain in a single line along the curb. Please do not attempt to pass cars releasing students as this creates an unsafe situation for our children. Please use extreme caution in our parking lot and drive in the morning and afternoon, as both are high-traffic times. Thank you for your part in keeping our children safe.
