Cyesis Program Upcoming event
Christmas is coming and many of our PHS staff ask what they can do for our babies in cyesis. This year cyesis will be placing an angel tree in the employee lounge on Friday November 15th. Staff will be welcome to take an ornament tag, buy a gift to fit the description on the ornament tag and place it under the tree, with the ornament tag, by Friday December 13th. Santa will arrive on December 18th to distribute the gifts. If you buy a gift for one of the cyesis babies, and wish to wrap it, please place the gift into a gift bag in which the gift can be viewed by cyesis staff. Gifts do not need to be wrapped but the gift tag needs to be returned with it.
As always, thank you PHS staff for your generosity to our beautiful cyesis babies.

Dual Enrollment
Spring Dual Enrollment registration has begun!
Eligible dual enrollment students should utilize the attached worksheet to find important dates and to make plans for Spring dual enrollment coursework. In order for students to be able to register online during their assigned time, students and parents/guardians must meet the deadlines listed on the online registration worksheet.
- 16 credit hours is the maximum number of hours that can be accessed through DE during the Fall and Spring terms.
- If a DE course is offered on your High School campus it must be taken there, not at PHSC.
- 10th grade students can only access 7 credit hours on the PHSC campus or online, the rest must be taken at the High School.
- 9th grade students cannot take any coursework at PHSC only on the High School campus. 9th grade students may take 3 online credit hours through PHSC.
- Any student taking an online course for the first time must take the PHSC online readiness course through Canvas.
- All DE students must complete the DE orientation in Canvas. Students who have not completed this by the Spring Term will have a hold placed on their registration.

Staff Recognition
Mrs. Couture and Ms. Newlon Student Services has called you out for great deeds!!!
Our first shout-out is to our behavioral specialist, Mrs. Couture. Mrs. Couture works with our EBD unit and is constantly putting out fires and ensuring that her students are on the best road to success. Her persistence, and her dedication to her job often go unnoticed by her students but not to our staff. Mrs. Couture has an amazing way of talking our students who are at a heightened state to come down and continue on with their day successfully. As a member of the counseling team, I am extremely thankful for Mrs. Couture and attention to detail, as well as her willingness to participate in meetings. Mrs. Couture is also a cross-fit guru and is always recruiting staff to complete a workout with her.
Our second shout-out is to Mrs. Newlon. Mrs. Newlon teaches geometry as well as algebra 2 honors. She is the PLC leader for geometry and is extremely passionate about math, and her students. A teacher states about Mrs. Newlon, "She makes our lives as teachers in our subject run smoothly." In meetings with Mrs. Newlon, I am always confident that her experience not only in math, but the educational system will help any answers that faculty might have. In addition to her amazing teaching skills, Mrs. Newlon also opens up her home for faculty members to unwind on occasions. On Wednesdays after school, you will find Mrs. Newlon leading a yoga group in the self-care room, an EXCELLENT way for our staff to have a sense of support. Mrs. Newlon, PHS is grateful for your charisma, leadership, and active participant in our faculty's lives.
Coach Stokes was named BUCS coach of the week! Congratulations on a great accomplishment!

Tutoring
Attendance
Please turn in all attendance notes to Ms. Benke at the guidance desk. All notes must be turned in within 2 days of absence. Absence notes must also have your name, ID#, date(s) you were absent and the reason for the absence. If you are absent for more than 5 days, you must have a doctor's note. Also, if you are checked out during the day, you will need to turn in a note for the periods missed.
Tardies and Early Check Outs
Students need to arrive on time and stay through dismissal so they will receive important directions, class instruction and avoid disrupting other students. Parents can set a good example by encouraging students to follow the school’s time schedule. All parents must report to the front office when picking up their child prior to the regular dismissal time. (From Pasco County Schools Student Code of Conduct)
Check out Procedure:
- Present written note from parent/guardian to front desk before 9 AM for same day check outs. (emailed notes not accepted)
- Front Desk Secretary (Jackie Floyd) verifies note with parent/guardian
- Student checks out at front desk at the designated time.
- Attendance is updated in myStudent by Time and Attendance Secretary (Jill Benke). Recorded as “L” in period in which the student checks out. Remaining periods are recorded as “U” unexcused absence until documentation is submitted in writing to the Attendance Secretary. If check-out is for a Medical or Dental Appt. written verification from them is requested. If student checks out “sick” a written parent note is requested. Notes must be turned in within 2 days of return to school.
Students who leave campus without following checkout procedures are considered “skipping” and absence(s) will not be excused.
Did you miss Ms. Kadlub's Sunday message?
Phone Message for 11/10/19
Good evening Pirate Families, this is Kari Kadlub calling with this week’s announcements.
MyStudent Accounts:
Believe it or not, we are already ½ way through quarter 2. Please continue to monitor your student’s MyStudent account for their grades and their attendance. If at any time you have any questions, please email your student’s teacher. Parents and students will be able to view 2nd quarter progress reports on this Friday, November 15th. As always, if you would like to schedule a parent-teacher conference, please contact Mrs. Benke at 352-524-5539.
Tutoring:
Weekly free tutoring is available. If your student is in need of tutoring in any subject area, please have them talk with their teachers or an administrator.
Reminders:
Parents and Students, I would like to remind you that leaving campus during the school day is against school board policy. Students that have class off campus either through online instruction or at PHSC is the only excusable reason to leave campus. Additionally, being in the parking lot during the school day is also NEVER allowed. Please make sure that if you are signing out of school for an appointment or signing back in, to do so through the front office. This is the way to ensure your absences are excused and you are following the correct procedures. Students, again, the dress code is in effect at all times. Please review the dress code and make sure outfits meet the dress code. Lastly, if you need to check-out your student, please make sure to do this prior to 1:30pm. All check-outs after 1:30pm will have to wait until the close of the school day at 2:00pm.
School Advisory Committee:
The next SAC meeting is Tuesday, November 12th at 8:00am in the front office.
