HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 6 August 30 2019
FROM YESTERDAY'S KINDY CONCERT.
FROM MARK
Dear Parents and Guardians
We must congratulate Riana, Iveta and their Pre Primary gang on a fabulous assembly this morning – it was awesome! Thank you all so much!
To our Year Five parents and our HRC thank you for leading the charge on the fantastic Fathers’ Day Breakfast this morning! Huge numbers attended and were well fed and watered. This is a great tradition and we are so appreciative that you have run this for our community.
Next week - Disco Friday, Eucharist Commitment Masses Saturday/Sunday and Year 2 Dominic Assembly on Friday – it’s all happening!
By now you will have read the message from our School Board about our Capital Development Plan which has been approved by Catholic Education Western Australia. This is big news in the life of Holy Rosary. It has been a long road to get to this point, but has been worth every effort.
Have a great weekend.

HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS
Sustaining our P&F
Over the past couple of years our P&F Executive Committee and members have worked hard to introduce structure, planning, sustainability and succession planning into the way the P&F works.
The role of the P&F is central to the existence of Holy Rosary: to support the school in its work, to build community and to empower parents in their role.
The four pillars of our Holy Rosary Community are:
- Parent Community: friendship and support for both children and parents
- Business Community: help our families prosper, by promoting their businesses
- Empowering Parents: help our families navigate the parenting journey, with seminars and speakers
- Fundraising: resources and facilities for our children
As parents in community, we have the capacity and power to improve our children’s learning journey and experience at Holy Rosary.
What has our P&F achieved over the past few years?
Through fundraising and the manpower of parents, our community has delivered:
- Kindy nature playground
- Pre-Primary nature playground extension
- Upper Primary nature playground
- Contemporary classroom furniture
- Makerspace
- A wide range of play equipment across year groups
- Educational and literacy support resources
- Grant funding (fingers crossed for the $10k for Westfield Local Hero!)
- Parent empowerment seminars: Maggie Dent, Claire Orange; Dr Kirsty
- And we’ve had some fun! Lapathon, Quiz Nights, Bogan Bingo….
Renewal for fresh energy and new ideas
Like all committees, renewal is important for fresh energy and new ideas. Some of our members will be completing their tenure at the end of 2019 as Executive Committee Members, but all intend to remain involved.
Executive members serve for one year and are eligible for re-election for a further year. The President position is for no longer than two consecutive years.
Over the next few weeks we will provide more information about those roles and be seeking parents to put up their hands for positions. A P&F must have an Executive Committee of:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Up to six other members, including a Board representative
A Sustainable Model for Community Engagement
‘Engaging Community Relationships’ is one of the four focus areas of Holy Rosary’s Strategic Plan.
Research into other school P&F organisations reveals many now use a distributed model, where the P&F plans the calendar of community events and runs fundraisers and grants, while the hands-on organising of events such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, discos, bake sales etc is allocated across year groups.
This approach works well in other schools and we are confident it can work for us too. It’s important for Holy Rosary to have a sustainable model for community engagement.

LIBRARY
We are still enjoying Book Week in our library! The art is incredible! If you haven’t seen it, you are welcome to pop your head in. Children love matching the art to the notable books – it’s so exciting to take these special books home! PP had a very special visit this week from Belinda from the City of Stirling Libraries and we loved showing her our library and hearing about the different things that happen in hers. Thank you Belinda!!
Happy Fathers Day!
