THE VIKING
Hinesburg Community School - March 12, 2021
The Principal's Corner
Dear HCS Families:
Like many of you, we feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel that leads us back to normalcy. Along with many Vermonters, our staff members are in the process of getting vaccinated. It removes much of the anxiety that most of our staff members experience each time they work closely with students and staff.
Along with the vaccination, our staff is excited to have our 7th and 8th graders in school for four full days a week. As of March 29th, all of our K-8 students will finally be in the building four full days a week!
The warmer weather has increased the number of students and families walking to school. Maybe this means we will enjoy a warm, dry spring that allows us to start bringing students outside again for outdoor learning.
Sorry skiers and snowboarders, but our fingers are crossed hoping for some warmer weather.
Warmly,
John and Suzan
CVSD FY22 Budget - Thank You!
Dear CVSD Community members and voters,
A heartfelt thank you for your continued support of the Champlain Valley School District’s students and schools. The CVSD FY22 Budget passed overwhelmingly. In this year, a year that has tested the creativity, patience, and tenacity of each and every one of us, the community came together in support of public education.
As the CVSD Board moves out of the planning and development phase of the budget cycle and into the implementation, rest assured the Administration and the Board are committed to increasing in-person learning.
While the voting process for this year is complete, I welcome you to continue to engage with us each month at the CVSD monthly board meeting. Meeting details, ZOOM log-in, and agendas can be found: https://www.cvsdvt.org/Page/604 or reach out to me: kbowen@cvsdvt.org.
Wishing you and your families continued good health and happy spring.
Kindly,
Kelly A. Bowen

Intra-District K-8 School Choice
Children entering grades K-8 who live in the towns of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston may exercise school choice. Our goal is to both allow options for families and also make balanced class sizes to provide a positive learning environment for all of our children. Processes for intra-district choice of school will be guided by the needs of students, space availability, and existing resources. Given this, we will work to meet as many families’ needs as possible. Guidelines and Application

Kindergarten Registration Is Open
Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is asking families to register their Kindergartners earlier this year, in an effort to get more accurate enrollment numbers for our schools. These enrollment numbers help us to plan our staffing needs for the upcoming school year and help us to coordinate our site visits for placement in the spring.
We really appreciate your help with registering your child early this year and we’re looking forward to meeting you at our Kindergarten Screening Day and Information Night in the spring if things open up!
Please contact Deb Lavalette at the Hinesburg Community School by emailing her at dlavalette@cvsdvt.org or call 482-2106 if you have a child that will be 5 years old before September 1, 2021.
CVSD COVID-19 Reporting Dashboard
The CVSD Dashboard is an online tool that gives families a chance to view of up to date data (updated each Thursday) from around the district concerning COVID-19. The tool shows a cumulative tally of testing and quarantine data for staff and students across the school district. You can access this information here.
