Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
Thank you for the messages and feedback we have received from the community about the passing of Ricky, our much loved and respected Site Manager. We will be supporting the family, and paying tribute to Ricky, in the following ways:
A community collection has begun and money, cards, notes, pictures etc. can be placed in boxes which will be on the playground every morning from 8:15 am - 8:30 am for the remainder of this week.
We will compile the tributes and emails we receive into a Memory Book, which will then be passed on to Ricky’s wife and daughter, Alman and Abigail, some time after Easter.
If you wish to send a donation, could we request they be put in the separate box from messages of sympathy. Any further donations will be collected and passed on to the family, along with the Memory Book, after Easter.
There will be a tribute to Ricky at assembly this Friday 12th April. We will hold the assembly downstairs from 11.15 am -12.00pm. You are all welcome to attend. We don't want to make this too sad for the children or adults but we do want to acknowledge the special man he was and that he will be missed by all of us. There will be a number of other assembly items too, including snippets of the Year 6 exhibition, a couple of songs from the Year 5 choral concert and an opening number by the school orchestra.
I know Ricky's family will be very appreciative and it will be another way of showing what a special community we are…..’a small school with a big heart!’
ESF Choral Concert
Our year 5 students performed superbly as part of the combined ESF Choral Concert. Thanks to parents and family members who supported the event and congratulations to Mr Benzie and the students for a brilliant performance. They sung the roof off the Queen Elizabeth Stadium!
Year 6 Exhibition
Yesterday the full school had the pleasure of getting a first ‘sneak peak’ of the Year 6 Exhibition. The dress rehearsal went very well with students showing in-depth knowledge of their area of study, speaking and performing with passion and pride. I’m sure their performance will dazzle the crowds tonight! Good luck Year 6. A huge thanks to the Year 6 team; Nia Sexton, Louise Bott, Elaine Pullinger and Jennifer Shiu. Staff from all over the school helped out in a variety of different ways. It’s been a great team effort with superb results and outcomes for all students. They have inspired us all to Take The Lead and to explore how Ordinary People Can Do Extraordinary Things’.
When we choose to make a meaningful difference, we become an everyday leader: Someone who promotes well-being on both an individual and a collective level.
As a reminder school will close at 12 midday on Friday and children may wear dress casual on this day.
Happy Easter and happy holidays!
Kind regards
Brenda

Medical Room News
Chicken Pox
Since our last email, we have had two further cases of Chicken Pox. These cases have come from two separate year groups. We are still in close contact with Hong Kong Department of Health and they continue to monitor the situation with us.
As before, please can you check your child before school for any fever, spots or rashes. Should any rash be found, please take your child to the doctor.
Please find attached an information sheet.
https://www.chp.gov.hk/en/healthtopics/content/24/15.html
Could you please also inform us as soon as possible if your child presents with these symptoms or contracts the virus. Please send the doctor's certificate if your child has been confirmed with chicken pox.
Mosquito Spraying Measures
Just to let you know that the Food and Environment Hygiene Department (FEHD) has carried out spraying on the slope last week. They have also passed the matter to the Highways Department as they are responsible for slope maintenance.
Our gardener is going to spray the inside plants during the Easter holidays too. It is difficult to control at certain times of the year. The nurse has additional spray which can be applied if a child needs during the course of the day.
Please do not hesitate to contact us over the coming days should you need any further information.
For those children who aren't well, we wish them all a speedy recovery.
Nurse Sue

Old Uniform Collection
My name is Noa and I am in Year 6. My Exhibition group is working on "Sustainable Community" and we are looking into how to reuse clothes. We are collecting used (but clean) uniforms from all year groups at Glenealy School to donate to the Crossroads Foundation.
Donations of old uniform for re-use and recycling can be dropped off at the PTA Uniform Shop/ or Year 6 on Friday 12th April from 8.15 am -8.30 am and on Monday 29th April from 8.15 am - 8.30 am.
Remember: You will not be able to use the old style uniforms after the end of June at school anymore.
Thank you to all families that have already recycled old school uniforms. The PTA sent 16 large bags of recycled uniform to Crossroads Foundation at the end of last term, for use overseas. Click here for more information on the wonderful work this charity does. Glenealy is committed to responsible recycling and re-use of our old uniforms. We will be arranging further collections of the old-style uniform later in the year.
Thank you.

Glenealy Brownie Pack
The Glenealy Brownie Pack has available places for girls in Y3 and Y4 starting this term. The Brownies meet from 3:00 to 4:30 on Tuesdays at Glenealy School. Brownies is run by volunteers and our fee for each term is $400 or less.
We offer a varied programme that aims to equip the girls with the knowledge and skills to become more independent and to develop their character. They learn in a fun, non-formal way by having a go and doing a wide range of activities that may include sewing, first aid, crafts, personal care, safety etc. Brownies is structured to give the girls opportunities to develop teamwork and leadership skills. The highlight of each year is an overnight camp in dormitories where they can put the skills they have learnt into practice.
Our pack belongs to the Hong Kong Girl Guide Association and is part of the Worldwide Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. If you would like your daughter to join the Brownie Pack, please complete the application form and email it to pennykennington@hotmail.com
