Range Judging Clinic & Contest
at Diamond Bar Ranch near Stapleton, NE
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The 4-H Program in Lincoln, Logan and McPherson counties is hosting a Range
Judging Clinic followed by a Contest on June 25th at the Diamond Bar Ranch
located on the northern edge of Stapleton, Nebraska. Youth will be at the
Ranch at 5:00 p.m. then carpool to the clinic/contest site. To find Diamond Bar
ranch take the Main Street in Stapleton north to the home of Robert and
Suzanna Jones. Range judging is the learning how to "read" the range to make
a proper management decisions.
YOUTH WILL:
1. Learn to recognize the components of the
range,
2. Identify various plants found on the range.
3. Evaluate the ecosystem's current
conditions,
4. Develop management practices to improve
the ecosystem.
5. Develop better understanding of the plant
communities.
6. Identify ecological site conditions by testing
for soil texture and characteristics.

Lincoln County 4-H Food Stand
The Lincoln County 4-H Council is accepting applications for a county fair food stand manager for the 2018 fair. This individual(s) will be responsible for coordinating with a committee and operating the food stand for seven days throughout the entire county fair events. The candidate should have an interest in working with youth in a positive, fun, learning environment, have good communication and organizational skills, knowledge of safe food practices would be beneficial. Contract salary is negotiable. Applicants are encouraged to call Brenda, 308-53-2683 or any Council member. Applicants will be accepted through April 23, 2018.
Lincoln County Geanive Hansen Memorial Scholarship
A $200 scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior 4-H member or a past 4-H member who is currently enrolled in a degree program pursuing a Clothing, Textile Construction or Design field of study.
Requirements: No more than 1-page essay is required explaining your 4-H clothing project work and how you plan to apply those life skills towards your major in a post-secondary college. Essays should be submitted to the Extension office no later than July 1, 2018.
