Art
Dear Town Creek Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you safe, well and making lots of art. Art is fun and a great way to express your feelings. If you’re looking for an idea for something to draw or paint, visit for inspiration: https://theartofeducation.edu/?s=art+activities+and+lessons+to+try+at+home
This link includes lessons on how to make your own paint from materials in and around your house and how to make and photograph temporary sculptures made from household objects. I hope you’re saving your artwork, like I would be doing for you if we were at school. I also hope you’ll keep sending me pictures of your amazing artworks for feedback.
This is our last newsletter until next fall. I miss you and hope you will continue to visit the fun art activities developed by St. Mary’s County Public Schools which can be accessed through this link, https://sites.google.com/smcps.org/smcps-elementary-art-at-home/home .
If you choose to submit a piece of art for me to see and comment on, you may send it to my email address which is dlsquier@smcps.org. If you send it through your student account, please cc: your parents so they can see my reply. Please include your first and last name with it so I know who made it.
My office hours for parents and students to reach me are 10am to 1230pm daily, Monday through Friday, now through June 18th, at my school email address above.
Music
Dear Town Creek musicians and families,
We have made it! What an incredible year we have had together. There are a few details I need to cover before we close out the 2019-2020 school year. Many third, fourth, and fifth grade students purchased recorders and others brought their own recorders to school. These recorders were housed in the music learning cottage. Each student’s recorder will be returned with student’s personal materials by the child’s classroom teacher during the assigned times.
Students who borrowed a SMCPS band or string instrument will need to return the instrument to the “contact free” drop off area near the music learning cottage during their grade levels assigned time. I will be available to assist as needed. Please email me at jnazimek@smcps.org if you have questions.
Our students have grown significantly as musicians since the beginning of the school year. I am proud of you. Take some time this summer to experience music in your own way. Find your favorite song and listen to it or sing along. Dance to a tune that makes you want to get up and move. Enjoy music by yourself or with others. Whatever you do, continue to enjoy music and make it a part of your life. I look forward to seeing you next year and continuing our music making journey together in the 2020-2021 school year.
Finally, a few words to our 5th grade students and families. It is time for me to say farewell. 5th graders you are about to become part of a very special group of people; promoted students from Town Creek Elementary School. You are part of one of the oldest educational communities in St. Mary’s County dating back to 1958. Please know you will always be part of our Town Creek family. I am proud of each and every one of you and I know you will grow up to achieve great things. When I taught 5th grade I always read “Oh the places you’ll go” on the first and last day of school to my homeroom. I have included a link here of a musical version called Oh the Places You'll Go Song.
Musicians and families I leave you with a quote from one of my favorite poems by Arthur O’Shaughnessy:
We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams.
Be that music maker and dreamer my friends. Have a happy and safe summer.
Musically yours,
Mr. NazimekMedia

I am beyond proud of your hard work and dedication over the last couple of months. It's been difficult for us all but we did it! Never give up, right? Right! We always follow our P.E. motto! You not only have done a great job turning in your P.E. logs but you've also brightened my day many times with the pictures and emails you sent to me. I love the ways you have found to stay active. I've learned so much, as you have, through this process. Please know I will be thinking of you over the summer and look forward to seeing you in the near future!
Town Creek 5th grade,

We had a great deal of fun along the way! Remember to keep going , follow your dreams and live by our P.E. motto, "NEVER GIVE UP". I will miss you all! Remember to come back and visit when you can! You will always be a Town Creek Terrapin!
