Dare to be Different!

Blog: Paralysis by Analysis

We have been gone a lot this summer. In fact, I don't recall a weekend where we were at home all day. As a result my landscaping isn't what I would like it to be. The backyard is particularly bad to the point I hate going back there. I am sure I will have a free Sunday coming up and thought of going back there and cleaning up will cross my mind. I will think about ALL of the things that need to be done and get overwhelmed by it. I have to mow, trim the bushes, sweep the deck, pull the weeds, edge the garden beds.....too much, I'll just sit here instead. In totality there are a lot of things to do, but individually they are simple tasks.

A lot of times in our life we become paralyzed by the overall analysis of what we have to do, when in reality a simple step forward is all we need. It isn't mowing and trimming, it is get the mowing done. It is not trim and sweep, it is just trim. This happens to us in education in a very similar way. We want to be SO AMAZING, SO INNOVATIVE that we get paralyzed by the size of what needs to be done. We then drown ourselves in the negativity of, "I can't believe I have to do this.....who else has to do this....this is stupid." All that time spent talking could have been spent taking the first step towards being amazing and innovative. Coach yourself up...."what I am going to do about this? What step forward can I take right now?"

Take action. It is either one day or day one, you choose.

PRIDE

Thanks for all your work in getting students going during PRIDE. As a reminder all PRIDE classes should be striving to be an environment conducive to studying. Headphones are required when students are listening to music, and devices should only be used for that purpose.

Also, please do not send students to the library during PRIDE to checkout/return books. The library is solely for research during PRIDE. See Sam if you need anything.'

Upcoming Dates:

8/7-Acceleration classes will start on Monday with Language Arts and Math teachers

8/28 - PRIDE Shuffle

*Pride Attendance will be taken through Infinite Campus at this time. When the PRIDE shuffle takes place on 8/28 then we will revert back to the DRIVE to take attendance.

The PRIDE guidance document can be found here: PRIDE Guidance Document

Homework Document

The homework document will go live to parents on Monday. Please make sure that it is filled out every day. Parents are quick to notice when blanks occur often.

This document is great for parents AND great for kids. Thanks for taking the time to fill it out.
