AHS Principal's Newsletter

October 12, 2021

Hello, AHS Families!

I hope you were all able to enjoy the long weekend! October is upon us, and we can truly feel students settling back into life at AHS! I wanted to use this edition of the newsletter to share some of the AWESOME things that are going on around here - to give you a highlight reel of the happenings here at AHS.

As a reminder, you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@amesburyhighschool), and you can find more information in our Weekly Bulletin that comes out each Monday via email. If you find you're not receiving this email, please contact Anne Nadeau (anne.nadeau@amesburyma.org).

We appreciate our students, staff, and community for all you're doing to support AHS!

With gratitude,

"Junior" Book Awards

On Friday morning, we celebrated our now seniors who were recipients of last year's prestigious Junior Book Awards. Although we weren't able to celebrate last spring, we wanted to come together to acknowledge these students with a light breakfast in our library courtyard. Book Awards are given by colleges to students meeting select criteria and often result in scholarships, waiving of fees, etc. Congratulations to our recipients:

Nixie Raymond, Lucas Welling, Solomon Browne, Julia Penny, Jane McCue, Mina Boston, Ethan Lintner, Alana DeLisle, Sean Rodgers, David Roberts, Benjamin Blumsack, Andrew Daileanes , Jake Hallinan, Avery Hallinan, Camden Keliher, Emma DesRoches, Hannah Balaam, Anna Bailey, Isabel Costello, Ryan Roberts, Amelia Kirby, Kloe Barry, Juliana Gannon, McKenna Hallinan, Piper Hogg, Zoe Glenn, and Lucy Litwin.

Way to go!

Principal's Coffee

Please join me for my next Principal's Coffee - Thursday, October 21st at 8:30 a.m. This is an opportunity for parents, guardians, and other community adults to ask questions and share feedback. The second coffee of each month will be virtual. Use this link to log on:

Future Freshman Night!

Save the Date! We're welcoming students and families of the class of 2026 to AHS on Thursday, October 28th from 6-8 pm for an info session and interactive tour of AHS. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions, see our building in action, and learn about academic and co-curricular offerings at AHS. Although this may only be applicable to some high school parents, any help to share this info would be appreciated.

There has been a lot of information in the media about MCAS scores - particularly in light of COVID. We are still in the process of analyzing our results here at AHS, but aggregate data shows that, despite small dips, we are still exceeding state averages for students meeting and exceeding expectations. As appropriate, we will use our data to help provide targeted instruction to those in need. While standardized test scores in the middle of a pandemic are certainly not what I consider a strong, solo indicator of academic success, we're incredibly proud of our students and staff for the work that put in last year with regard to accessing the curriculum.

Individual score reports for students are being mailed home to families today. Should you have any questions about the data and/or what the score report means for your child, please reach out to Mrs. Lingley - alina.lingley@amesburyma.org.

Senior PASS Info Session

The Senior PASS program is our Plan for an Alternative Spring Semester. The goal is to provide students who have met our graduation requirements with an opportunity to work, intern, and/or take college courses. There will be a virtual info session for parents/guardians on Monday, October 18th at 10:00 a.m. This session will be recorded and shared for those who can't attend.

Self-Certification of Vaccination Status

Please see below from the Superintendent.

Hello Amesbury High School Families and Staff,

I hope that everyone is doing well! As I indicated in my last newsletter, I am sending a Google Form Survey to collect "OFFICIAL" documentation of the vaccination status of our staff and our students. This will be used to calculate the percentage of fully vaccinated members of the high school. In order for your fully vaccinated status to count, you must include a digital picture of a vaccination card or a digital copy of a written attestation of fully vaccinated status. Please submit one form for each child (where appropriate). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
