MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
63rd Edition: February 16, 2018
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
On Thursday, the students and families may have noticed an increased police presence throughout the day in our school parking lot. This was absolutely important to help students know that our dedicated first-responders are always close by. The Woodstock police increased patrols and visits to all the area schools on Thursday to help reassure our students of their concern and dedication to our safety.
Yesterday, the National Catholic Educational Association issued the following announcement and shared valuable resources for us as educators and parents:
“With heavy hearts, NCEA and Catholic school communities around the country stand united to offer prayers of solace for the families of the victims, the injured, the first responders and hospital staff and all of those in the Parkland community who have been touched by this brutality....Together we pray that all of those affected will feel God’s compassion and comfort as they struggle to restore hope and security in their lives.”
Additional resources and prayers are available on the following websites:

Marian Central Blood Drive Saves Up to 138 Lives!
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our SMART/Fit Club, Heartland Blood Center received over 45 eligible donors...which helps save up to 138 lives! A special thank you goes out to our senior student, Colin Stoll, along with club adviser, Benji Winkelman, for being the driving force behind bringing this opportunity to our school and coordinating the precise logistics of running the event. We will certainly be bringing this opportunity back to Marian Central, as we continually find ways to give of ourselves (quite literally!) to our immediate community!
3rd Quarter Conversations that Matter: Social Media and Texting MARCH 8TH, 7pm
This third session in this series will review the dangers pre-teens and teens face while engaging with social media and texting. This session will include a discussion on the recent data about teen use of their devices, benefits and dangers of social media, legal ramifications of certain online and texting behaviors, as well as the effects on both senders and receivers.
Specific focus will be on:
- Sexting
- Harrassment
- Cyberstalking
- Online Preditors
We will have two expert speakers to address this topic:
Patrick Kenneally, McHenry County State's Attorney
Dan Wilbrandt, McHenry County Assistant State's Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division
Feel free to click on the speaker's name for a brief bio about him.
We will also have a priest, Father Carl Beekman from Sts. Peter and Paul, Cary, that will address the Church's perspective on this issue.
Please join us as we talk about these tough issues and look for real solutions together.
>>> This session is designed for BOTH parents and students.
Calling All Seniors: It's Time to Submit Your BABY PHOTO!
Dear Marian Senior Family,
It is the time of the year where the yearbook, The Memorare, is collecting baby photos of the Senior class. Photos should be appropriate and tend to be between ages 6 months-2 years. We ask that these photos be clear and scannable.
Senior students will be turning in their baby photos to their English teacher. We will return these photos in the same condition, we just ask that the following information is provided on the back of the photo:
- Student’s printed FULL name
- English Teacher’s Name & Class Period
*You May also email a clear JPEG File of the scanned baby photo to kgallagher@marian.com. Please include your student’s full name with the email.
If your student(s) chooses not to submit a photo, he or she will have no smaller photo next to their official portrait. The space will simply be left blank. To guarantee every Senior has a photo, we ask that students bring their photos in NO LATER than Thursday, March 8th, 2018
We will return the photos once they have been successfully scanned into our system.
Should you have any questions, please contact Miss Gallagher (kgallagher@marian.com). We look forward in creating a lifetime of memories for the Class of 2018!
Sincerely, The 2017-2018 Memorare Editors, Advisers, and Staff

Doing any DRESS SHOPPING?
PROM -FORMAL (April 27th - Juniors and Seniors only) Gowns and Tuxedos are the typical attire for this event. Again, with dresses, since there are so many selections out there - it is important that our school's conservative attire is respected.
Society (and the media) may be tempting our young men and women to dress and behave far beyond their age - but we have to do our best to protect the age they actually are. Thank you for always partnering with us in this effort to prepare them for adulthood, while still honoring and protecting their age.
We hope you find this Semi/Formal Dress Guideline helpful!
