Motocross
Forces/Motion & Safety
Motocross
Motocross is a closed dirt bike circuit. The jumps are man made, constructed to be like rough outdoor terrain. The race tracks have uphills, downhills, corners, doghouse sections. All tracks are different and are designed by the experience riders have. Motorcycles are designed for this type of racing. Anyone can race on a motocross track from beginners to the Pro's.
Motocross is my favorite. It is exciting, thrilling, the speed and shows how strong riders are. Riders have to train and be in top shape to handle these bikes. Racers have to be in control. They must work out and train daily, physical fitness is a must. Motocross racers also have to be able to maintain their bikes. Safety checks and preventive maintenance are a requirement. If a bike is not running well a rider can wreck and cause injury to themselves. Maintenance/repairs and physical fitness are a major factor in bike racing.
Racing & Jumping
Racers jump & ride obstacles that are steep, require a lot of speed, ruts and hills. They have to know how to hit these obstacles at the right speed and angle. Riders can come up short which will make them endo or case a jump.
When a rider is going uphill acceleration is needed and a long straight a way to hit the high jump. Riders use their agility and knowledge of jumps to land these obstacles without wrecking.
Safety Equipment
Riding a track
If you are riding your own track like I do it is always good to do a walk around to check for unwanted items. Rocks, or any other unwanted items that could cause you to wreck. Being aware of what is around you is very important.
If you have friends over to ride it is a good idea to have them walk your track so they can see exactly how it is laid out, then take a slow lap ride around. Being a safe rider helps prevent wrecks.
How to jump and land the above jumps.
- The take off and landing - you need to find your rut or line, have enough speed, keep a straight line and land on your back tire. You should never be sitting on your bike or it will cause you to wreck.
- The table top- Have enough speed, hit this jump on the landing or you will case the jump. You should never be sitting down on your bike this will also cause an accident.
- Main Jump- Have enough speed, find your line, land on your front tire and do not be sitting down on the bike as this will make you wreck.
My Track
This is my cousin Andrew, he is in full safety gear getting ready to ride our track.
