From Mr. Baker, Principal

Hello Ankeney Families,

I cannot believe it is already the first week of March and we are wrapping up the third quarter of the 21-22 school year this Friday! We have had a very busy month of February full of scheduling conversations, field trips, guest speakers, and many fun activities for our students at AMS. March is finally here and we have a couple of important events coming up before spring break later this month.

As a reminder, we will be completing online registration for the 22-23 school year with students during Flex on Wednesday, March 2nd. Thank you for all of your help discussing the Encore course options with your students for next school year.

We will also be meeting with parents during our spring parent-teacher conferences the week of March 7th. If you would like to request a conference with your child's teachers, please sign up using this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14s8wId1diCUBFxWy30HVmlKvD0vssCPruk6K_D5r6oc/edit

If you have not yet scheduled to meet with your child's teachers, please sign-up by Friday, March 4th.

We look forward to an awesome start to our last quarter of the 21-22 school year as we continue to partner with our Ankeney families and community. I hope you all have a wonderful start to the Spring season and enjoy reading about all of the great things happening at Ankeney Middle School this month!

Go Chargers!

Did You Know??? - Homework Help

Every day after school from 2:15-3:00 (with the exception of Tuesdays due to meetings), we have several staff members who work with students who would like help with homework and other assignments. It is a drop-in program and often times, classroom teachers will be available to help their students or students are able to help each other. If you have any questions about this valuable opportunity for students, please contact Mrs. Voris at barb.voris@gocreek.org.

Shine Award

Our Shine Award recipient for the month of January is 8th grader Macey Stewart! Macey is especially responsible and hard-working, but what really sets her apart from her peers is that she is deeply compassionate. She is highly attuned to the feelings of others, and she goes out of her way to let others know that she is thinking of them during times of struggle.

Every day, I see Macey cheering people up through her positive attitude and kindness, and I see her showing genuine concern and support for those who need it. Her attention is not a quick, fleeting comment but rather a focused conversation that stems from genuine care and a selfless desire to make others feel better. She is often seen spending her own time tutoring classmates with their school work. On a daily basis, Macey makes a positive impact on our Ankeney community through her meaningful acts of kindness. Congratulations, Macey, on being a student of character!

Ankeney PTO News

Did you know there is a PTO section on the school’s website? To view, go to Ankeney's Web page and on the right side of the page, select PTO. Here you can view upcoming events, links to forms/information, signup to volunteer, or make a monetary donation through PayPal to support our students and staff this year. Your donations allow us to do so much for our staff and students! Most recently we provided candy to students as an end-of-the-quarter treat.

We also have a Facebook group, Ankeney Middle School PTO, where you can post questions and get real-time information. This page exists to support school staff and students. Questions and discussions are encouraged. However, personal criticism will not be tolerated and such posts will be removed. If we feel a topic/question has been accurately answered and addressed or comments have become off-topic, we will turn off commenting. Access is limited to parents, guardians, and staff so please answer the prompts when requesting to join.

Spring Dance - April 22 6-7:30

Be on the lookout for information on volunteering and donating needs for our Spring dance! We had amazing support in the fall and look forward to another great social event for students!

PTO Board Positions - URGENT NEED

It is time for us to begin planning for the next school year! We continue to look to fill the positions of President, Vice President, Volunteer Coordinator, and committee chairs. If this is something you may be interested in, please reach out to us at AnkeneyPTO@gmail.com. Unfortunately, if we are unable to fill these positions by May, the PTO will be forced to go dormant for the 2022-2023 school year. This would mean we would be unable to help fund and hold events that are typically hosted by our organization such as school dances and the 8th-grade farewell. The current board would be happy to answer any questions you may have and we will make ourselves available to help throughout the transition.

Upcoming Dates:

March - Information coming soon about an opportunity to order Butterbraids with delivery in time for Easter and Mother's Day!

March 4 - 8th-grade t-shirt design contest deadline

April 22 - Spring Dance 6-7:30 pm

May 12 - Bubble Tea visits Ankeney

May 18 - Incoming 6th graders ice cream social

May 20 - Ankeney Night at the Dayton Dragons

May 25 - 8th-grade Farewell

From the School Nurse

Sixth Grade Parents: Take advantage of Spring Break and get your student's Tdap and Meningitis (MCV4) vaccines completed. These are required for seventh grade. If you do not have a doctor, you can contact the Montgomery County Health Department at (937) 225-5700 to schedule an immunization update at little to no cost. Please bring in an updated copy of your child's shot record to the Ankeney Clinic. Feel free to contact Mrs. Newsport, our school nurse, at (937) 458-2509 if you have questions or concerns. We're here to help!

Student Dress Code

Just a reminder about our Student Dress Code as we have had students wearing jeans with holes above mid-thigh as well as shirts that are not appropriate for school. For more detailed information on the Middle School Dress Code and how we handle violations, please refer to page 13 in the Student Handbook which can be found on our website.

School Fees

Just a reminder that if you have not paid your school fees, please call Mrs. Bradley at 937-458-2501 to pay over the phone or pay online through EZ Pay (www.spsezpay.com/Beavercreek). School fees allow us to provide many of the consumable items students use such as workbooks, science supplies, agendas.

Power of the Pen

Congratulations to our seventh-grade team consisting of Carson Cusick, Morgan Drummond, Kara Garcia, Charlotte Howard, Julia Pochet, and Synclair Smith which placed first out of thirteen teams.
