Monday Morning Memo - Week 1
9/2/19 - Focus on Relationships & Routines
Dear Poupard Leaders,
The start of this new school year brings in mixed emotions as we embark our 68th and final year as a school. This year, our staff will build relationships with students and families and work collaboratively more than ever before.
I've finally selected my word for the year that I'd like for all of us to reflect on. That word is "choice". One of the lessons Leader in Me has taught me is that I choose my own weather. I choose how I want to lead my life. I choose who I want to spend time with, how I want to spend it, and where. This year, I chose to be at Poupard because this is a special place full of people I respect and care deeply about.
You all made a choice as well. You chose to be at Poupard because of your "why". As we walk through the doors tomorrow, we choose to serve as the advocates for our emerging student leaders. We choose to use a welcoming tone and expression that'll make them think from day 1, "this will be a great year". We choose to build relationships with handshakes, high fives, questions and much more. We choose to relay high expectations for what students learn and how they treat one another. We choose to connect with families in an authentic and genuine way.
We have many more choices to make this year and I'm confident that the people on our team will make the right ones and continue to focus on kids. Even though we have an interesting and unfamiliar ride ahead, I'm thankful that you all chose to still be a part of it.
Set those alarm clocks because we're hitting the ground running tomorrow! I'm thrilled you all have chosen to be on our team!
Ali

Morning Walkthroughs
So I certainly failed at this goal last year but I'm going to continue keep trying...I plan on trying to visit every classroom once a day to simply say hello to students and teachers. I've placed it in my schedule this year so I'm hoping that'll help. I want to create the least amount of disruption to learning possible, so if I visit during instruction, please continue doing what you're doing.Walkie Talkie
All Classroom Teachers should have received a Walkie Talkie. Please take it with you when you take your students outside for an extra recess. The office staff will use it to locate individual students, typically for early dismissal.Class Newsletters
Please share your weekly newsletters with me by "Ccing" me when they are emailed out to families. This allows for me to stay connected with all of the exciting things happening inside of your classrooms.
Emergency Information
Please be sure to review all of the emergency information for fire drills and tornado drills inside of your classrooms. We will be doing a sweep to make sure your emergency bags are stocked with everything that necessary and include updated rosters as they become available.
Behavior Referrals
Behavior Referrals must be completed using the Online Behavior Form. Staff must complete the behavior form anytime a student is sent down to the office for a major office referral. Homeroom Teachers and Special Area Teachers are responsible for contacting the family to notify them of any incidents that occurred inside of the classroom. Please call home over an email whenever possible. Personally, I'd recommend sharing anything over 3-4 sentences over a phone call as well.
