Brain Based Learning Strategies
Enhancing Student Success
Over the next few weeks we will be doing advisory lessons focusing on some brain based strategies that help students learn. These skills will help students on tests, but we also encourage you to use them in your classroom . The more these skills are practiced, the more students will feel comfortable using them on test days. This newsletter is simply to inform you of some activities you will be seeing in advisory lessons. The more information you have, the easier it will be to be mindful when planning lessons. Please look for ways to incorporate some of these.
Posture Matters--Superhero Pose
Encourage students to become aware of their posture in the classroom. It matters in several ways. Our body language sends messages to the outside world as well as to our brain.

The Element of Surprise
What are ways you can add Surprise to your lessons/test taking?
- When you get bored, read test questions from the bottom up
- Trick your brain by linking a concept to something unusual. The unusual connection triggers our brain to better remember.
- When a student is interested or caught off guard the chemical balance in the brain changes, stimulating the brain to remember
Brain Breaks
Schedule learning breaks in your classroom. These will give students a break to process the information you have been presenting
