Second Grade News!
Your second grader will be starting a 10 week guidance program called “Free the Horses: A Self-Esteem Adventure.” They go through the adventure each week by watching a video and having discussions. The main characters are Kelly, Jerome the Gnome, and Yes-Yes (part dragon-part unicorn). The students help them as they face a variety of problems that children face every day. The characters learn to handle their problems positively and courageously, as will your children.
School Supplies
As we begin to approach a new season, please continue to check your child's student planner for homework assignments, due dates, special events and notes from the teacher. Also, please continue to monitor your child's school supplies, many students are beginning to run out of pencils, erases and notebook space and need to be replaced.
Volunteers
Each second grade class will continue having guest mystery readers on Friday's throughout the rest of year. In addition, this spring we would like to request guest volunteer speakers to come in and share their career and/or talent. If you are interested in coming in please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
Famous American Book Report Project
We are very excited about our upcoming book report projects, just a reminder they are not due until March 10th, 2014. If you have any questions regarding the assignment please contact your child's homeroom teacher. Homeroom teacher's will be sending home a schedule of when your child will present their project during the first week of March.
Recess is Still Outside!
Students will continue to go outside for recess throughout the winter months for their 30 minute recess. Please continue to send your child to school with jackets, gloves, hats and scarves to keep them warm outside. To help your child please label each item! We also invite you to come in and spend time with your child during our lunch and recess time. Second grade recess is Monday through Friday 12:00-12:30pm and lunch is from 12:30-1:00pm. We hope that you will be able to come in and join the fun!!!
