Weekly Update

From the Desk of the Principal

May 28, 2021

Dear Masconomet Middle School Families,

MCAS testing went well again this week. Students enjoyed the warm weather with outdoor time after testing. As we approach the long weekend and Memorial Day, I would like to remember all those who died in military service to our country. Please see below for some important updates.

Upcoming Calendar Dates:

• May 31- No School- Memorial Day

• June 21- Last day of school and 8th grade Moving On

MCAS Testing

IMPORTANT: As a reminder, all students need to bring in their Masco Chromebook for testing, if they signed one out. For students that have not signed out a device and are BYOD for daily learning, a Masco device will be provided during MCAS testing.

Science for 8th grade takes place next week on Wednesday, June 2. 7th grade testing is finished aside from make-up tests!

Fully Remote Students: For students who missed testing, Math MCAS make ups will take place on Thursday, June 3 and Science makeups will take place on Tuesday, June 8.

Sun and Warm Weather

As we progress through the last few weeks of the school year, students will be participating in more outdoor activities and taking advantage of the nice weather by being outside for classes at times. With this is mind, please make sure that students bring full water bottles to school and sunscreen. Students may also bring hats and sunglasses for outdoor wear, and they should dress appropriately for the weather in accordance with the dress code listed in the Student Handbook. We are planning field day type activities during the week of June 14 where students will be outside for the majority of the day.

Field Day

As a fun way to wrap up what has been a very challenging school year, the Middle School teachers are organizing an end-of-year field day event. The dates are Tuesday, June 15th (rain date 6/16) for the 7th graders, and Thursday, June 17th (rain date, 6/18) for the 8th graders.

The day will be divided into morning and afternoon activities. In the morning, students will be able to choose from a wide variety of activities such as wiffle ball, bracelet making, theater/ improv games, basketball, badminton, rock/ mandala painting, water balloon toss, hula hoop, mural painting, and many more! After lunch, we are planning a team tug-of-war competition and some “chill out” time under the tent, so students can sign yearbooks and enjoy a Richie’s Italian Ice.

In the coming weeks, students will receive an email with a Google Form to sign up for the activities that interest them, and we will be providing more information as the event takes shape.

Student Absences

As a reminder, if a student miss school due to being in the COVID-19 protocol because of illness or being a close contact, they may login to class remotely. Furthermore, if student has recently received a vaccination, and is experiencing side effects and cannot attend school, but can login from home, please let the nurse know and send a copy of the vaccination card. The student can then learn remotely that day. Students who are home sick or miss school for other reasons may not login to classes remotely.

Have a good weekend,

Phil McManus
