Are You Future Ready?

Future Ready is an effort intended to bring about digital learning opportunities designed to prepare students for college, career and citizenship. It provides a framework, resources, training and support. Districts that sign the Future Ready pledge "commit to foster and lead a culture of digital learning in their districts" (Dept. of Education). Academy School District 20 is one of those districts.

What does this mean for the classroom teacher? Much of what happens in this effort is behind the scenes in support of our students and the learning experience. To support districts committed to this effort, Future Ready Schools has a created number of programs:

At the heart of Future Ready Schools is a Framework. The framework consists of 7 gears focused around Personalized Student Learning:

Collaborative Leadership, while not a gear itself, runs throughout all of the gears.

At Pine Creek High School we've already taken a number of steps down this road. We have improved our infrastructure; we have established common planning for much of our staff; we have a path to determine if digital resources ensure our student's data privacy; we are developing assessment literacy and digital leaders; our professional learning weaves together our site plan with department needs; and, we are working though our assessment process and honors project. We're already taking great steps forward to be Future Ready and we're just beginning!

What's APPening?

Many of us are familiar with Padlet as a digital bulletin board. Use it on your iPad, PC, Mac, iPhone, Android phone or tablet - it doesn't matter what platform! Recently Padlet updated some of it's features.

Take a look at some of it's newer amazing possibilities:

  • draw directly on the canvas
  • record audio directly into a Padlet
  • record video directly into a Padlet
  • add photos directly into a Padlet
  • search images, YouTube videos, GIFs and websites
  • add places
  • add a Padlet within a Padlet

And don't forget Padlet's standard features:

  • upload a video or audio file
  • upload images
  • type responses
  • like like or rate responses
  • comment on responses
  • customize the background
  • customize the layout
  • share via email, link, QR code
  • embed into other sites

Padlet has so many possibilities! Try it today!

Which Digital Tools are You Using?

We've had a lot of freedom at Pine Creek regarding the tools we choose to use. We'd like to continue having you, the experts, continue to be the ones choosing the tools your students use. That's why we are asking you to partner with us.

Partner with us and help us ensure your tools for classes, teams, clubs and activities are approved and ready for to use when you need them. PLAN AHEAD. Visit Pine Creek's Resource List; it includes the resources submitted by you. Don't see the one you'd like to use? Visit the District database. Still don't see your resource? Fill out the Digital Tool Application and we'll get it submitted to District IT for approval. Once the tool is approved, we'll update our list and inform you. This process takes time, especially if a purchase needs to be made.

Please be patient with us and the District as we embark on this new process. The District database is continually being updated as is our own resource list. Our goal is to ensure you have the resources you need while protecting our students' privacy.

Have questions? Contact anyone of your Digital Resource Team members, Susan, Sasha or Steve.
