The most significant god in Greek Mythology

Thesis Statement

In Gordan Dean’s “The Olympians”, the god known as Zeus is the most significant god in Greek Mythology because he is illustrated to be the most courageous, lucky, and heroic god. Zeus represents an eagle, lightnening and thunder, law and justice, and most of all god of the sky.

Zeus was the last child from Cronus and Rhea and was lucky to never be swallowed by his father, as he was saved by his mother Rhea to avoid this fate. Without the existence of Zeus his brothers and sisters would have not been released from his father’s stomach and Cronus and the Titans would still be in power.

For example, Zeus is strong and intelligent when he decides to save his siblings, by causing his father to throw up, then defeat the titans and his father.

The article on the god Zeus states, “When he had grown up, Zeus caused Cronus to vomit up his sisters and brothers, and these gods joined him in fighting to wrest control of the universe from the Titans and Cronus, their king… Then he and his brothers Poseidon and Hades divided up creation... Zeus also was accorded supreme authority on earth and on Mount Olympus.” (Dean 1).

This shows Zeus is being fair in sharing the sea, underworld and his part, the sky instead of acting on selfishness like his father and want to rule everything for himself. Throughout the Trojan War Zeus has shown nothing but bravery and heroism.

Therefore, without Zeus’s great impact in Greek mythology Cronus and the Titans would have still been in power and the offspring of Zeus and his siblings would have never existed. And this indeed shows that Zeus was the most significant god in Greek Mythology.
