Summer Bulletin
Message from the Principal
Greetings Standing Bear Families,
It is hard to believe we are already weeks into SUMMER! Just a few reminders and updates.
- iPads and summer learning apps- There are apps on your students iPad that can be used over the summer. Take some time each day to have them engage in the various apps (see below the flyer).
- Summer Reading Challenge- This is a great opportunity to get in some extra reading over the summer and help Standing Bear soar to the top with our minutes. Be part of our success and read each day!!
- Outside- Don't forget to put the iPad down and spend some time playing outside!!
- Car Tags- We will be keeping family numbers the same for next year. If you still have tags that are in good shape you can keep them. If you need new tags we will have a signup at Meet Your Teacher Night in August.
Stay positive, patient and flexible!
Sincerely,
Bridget O'Melia
Reading Olympics: Congratulations Standing Bear Students!
Standing Bear is honored to announce that we had students who were awarded GOLD, SILVER, and BRONZE medals for their entries in the first District Reading Olympic Trials. This year’s booklist theme was RESILIENCE.
Elijah Johnson and Xavier Hagan earned bronze medals for the Problem-Solving Challenge in which they used their creative thinking skills to bring awareness to a real-world problem.
Students also participated and earned medals in the Inquiry Challenge. For this challenge, students investigated a topic of their choice that was revealed to them in one of the books and showcased their findings by designing an original product.
Our gold medalists for the Inquiry Challenge are Jack Hanks, Kali Schmidt, Isaac Jones, and Eliana Volshonok. Silver medal winners include Sameeha Siddiqui, Hadley Herrington and Sam Petersen. Sophie Quintero-Figueroa earned a bronze medal.
We would like to congratulate them for representing our school with their outstanding academic achievements.
Reading Olympics is sponsored by Omaha Public Schools and the Gifted and Talented Department.

Important Information from Standing Bear
Building Security
For the safety and security of our students and this building, we are asking that any parent visitor make an appointment prior to entering the building. We will continue to limit outside visitors due to Health & Safety Protocols.
Drop Off Zone
We ask that you please continue to pull all the way down to the second crosswalk if possible (by main front doors). We can then unload around 10 vehicles rather than 5.
We currently have a school staff member assisting your child to breakfast or the classroom at the main doorway for all student’s morning arrival. REMINDER: School doors don’t open until 8:35 AM for classroom entrance and breakfast opening hours.
We ask again not arrive for end of school day pick-up until 3:50pm due to traffic flow congestion issues we’re currently experiencing due to early arrivals.
Please be attentive and cognizant of all school crossing guard officials and adhere to their requests during student morning drop-off and pick-up times. Our goal is to ensure your child’s overall safety.
School Messenger
We will be using the School Messenger (Robo call or email) to communicate this year. Please make sure to contact the office if you need to update your contact information.
Birthday Celebrations
We ask that only non-food items be brought for birthday celebrations.
