The four causes of the war of 1812
Cause #1: Impressment
The first reason is america declared neutrality and wanted to trade with Europe but neither Britain or France accepted it. In the impressment, Britain captured ships and kidnapped sailors again. At Chesapeake in 1807, a British warship tried to capture the Chesapeake ( an american warship). The Chesapeake ended up getting fired upon and the British kidnapped it's soldiers. Many americans were getting furious and this was a cause that led to the war.
Cause #2: Economic problems
Jefferson proposed an embargo to avoid war. The act was the " damn-bargo" act, This act made it to where america stopped all trade with Europe. This act was a good result because it kept american ships safe and and helped avoid war. But, there was also a bad result to it, without European trade, The american economy suffered. James madison was elected president in 1808.
Cause #3: " Warhawks" elected
The Warhawks wanted war against Britain. The congression from the south and the west for the " Warhawks " were elected in 1810.The south was angry because Britain had damaged their trade with Europe. The west was also angered because They blamed Britain for indian attacks on the frontier. Henry clay later proposed a new economy system for America. He also developed many compromises to prevent the civil war.
Cause #4: Native American Attacks
Americans violated the treaty of Greenville and moved into indian territory. The British troops armed the indians to attack americans because they were still in western forts. Tecumseh began recruiting and uniting tribes to protect their land. In the battle of Tippecanoe, William henry Harrison let his troops against indians, crushing Tecumseh's movement.
