Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
September 23rd, 2022
This week we encountered some unexpected challenges with transportation -- some substitute drivers missed AM stops and some PM busses were unexpectedly late. We recognize this is a challenge and hardship to families and continue to be grateful for your patience and understanding. We always communicate with the information we have. When we have information on latenesses -- either with advance notice from the Office of Transportation or when busses simply don't arrive at dismissal -- we send a text message to the students on that bus list via School Messenger. This choice, as opposed to a phone call -- limits the number of calls coming back from missing the robo-call, allowing our office staff to field calls from parents interested in picking up, and to communicate with the Office of Transportation. Again -- we appreciate your partnership and understanding in working through these challenges.
On the topic of transportation -- we want to let parents know that we will be conducting bus evacuation drills on Tuesday 9/27 at arrival. Additionally, a member of the Lutherville Community Association requested that we pass along notice that some utility work occurring in the neighborhood may limit parking/access along Division and Middle Aves where some families park for drop-off at the Parent Pickup door by the music room in the weeks ahead.
One of the truly exceptional elements of Lutherville Lab, is our student club offerings. These were shared last week and more information is below. We sincerely hope our community will be able to take advantage of these opportunities. A full menu of offerings is attached, came home with students today, and more information is below.
We have two exciting community events coming up!
Food Truck Night is next Thursday! This is always a blast and a great family event. We hope you'll join us at St. Paul's Lutheran between 5:00 and 8:00. Thanks to our PTA for putting on a great community event and we hope to see you there!
Fall Family Night is Tuesday October 11th. We are planning an incredible evening with performances, displays, interactive exhibits and a Multicultural Fair! We are seeking families that are interested in sharing elements of their home culture with our school community. If you are interested in sharing through a demonstration, artifact, display, food, teaching some of the language, or another idea -- please contact Liz Roe from the PTA at lizroe7@gmail.com to register!
We also received a number of requests to share information from community partners, please see the attached files for information on Scouts, Youth Fall Baseball, and a Tots Co-Op program.
Have a great weekend! Reminder -- no school Monday 9/26!

The Leopard Laugh
One of our favorites this week was submitted (handwritten by herself) by Anna in Mrs. Fischer's first grade class: Why did the cake have to go to the doctor? .... Because it was feeling crummy!
If your child loves jokes, please encourage them to make a submission. We love getting jokes from students! They're the best ones.
Lutherville Lab Mission and Vision
Mission: Lutherville Laboratory is an engaged, diverse, and connected community, united in our commitment to nurture in every child harmony and respect in themselves, with others, and for the world around us, thus empowering children with a lasting foundation to pursue excellence in future endeavors.
Vision: Our vision of Lutherville Lab is a nurturing school full of joy, community, and achievement. Students at Lutherville feel known and supported to grow through caring relationships with peers and adults. Students are engaged and inquisitive, pursuing understanding and growing their skills in an environment that is safe, warm, and inclusive. Students learn to productively struggle to grow their academic skills and respond mindfully to others and restore relationships when encountering differences.
Our students are supported by a compassionate, committed, and reflective staff, who provide excellent instruction for every child. Staff are encouraged as experts in student learning and creative problem-solving to build confidence, remove barriers, and create opportunities and outlets for all students to grow and thrive. We partner with an involved community to jointly develop joyful, inclusive community events and school initiatives that support and encourage our students.
Through this collaborative school family, children develop the curiosity, care, skills, and tenacity to serve as citizen scientists – educated and empowered to make a difference in the world.
Student Clubs!
This is our list of intended club offerings. It is subject to sufficient student interest and continued staff availability.
If you would like to register your child for a given club, please email the club sponsors to get on their club mailing list. Email addresses can be found in the Club Offerings attachment.
Please note that there is not an Activity Bus this year. The bus was funded by Re-engagement Funding from COVID relief funds that was provided for last school year. If transportation is a barrier for your child's participation, we encourage you to pursue rideshare/car-pooling with other families in the club.
