The Principal's Desk At Sycamore ES
January 16, 2017
Parents,
What a great start to the school year with our students and staff! On Friday, January 13th, we held our 3rd Annual Student Leadership Conference at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center. This year, our focus was on diversity and bringing our world together as one. It was an amazing success and we even got recognized in the Gwinnett Daily Post. In a divided world, it's never too late to help our student leaders learn how to bridge the gaps in their communities. Students indulged in various opportunities to grow their leadership while learning ways to be the light in the Lanier community. Please check out our article above that was online, Facebook and Twitter this weekend.
This Thursday is the 100th day of school. Please check in with your children to see what their class is doing to celebrate this fun day! We are over 1/2 way there with just over 80 days to go! We want to make it count, so please make sure your children are studying, reading and getting all of their homework done. It is imperative that they come to school each and every day to seize the most important learning in the classroom. Thank you for partnering with us to assure that our students are the best in Gwinnett!

Georgia Milestones-Grades 3-5:
In April, all Georgia students in grades 3-5 will engage in a yearly test that helps schools monitor grade level learning and growth toward state standards. This test this year, will entirely be taken online as opposed to paper and pencil. Students will partake in a test related to language arts, math, science and social studies. We have continued to implement practical strategies with our students all year and will continue to embed practice into the normal curriculum so that it is engaging, rigorous and supportive. This test is a promotion requirement and more information will be offered throughout the school year. Please join us in February during conferences where we will offer four sessions that will give you more information about how this important test works.
January 17th-STEAM Night: Tuesday Night
We are excited to hold our annual STEAM NIght on January 17th at 5:30 PM.
“STEAM Safari” Event (for January 17, 2017)
Science Night begins at 5:30 pm with Animal Adventure ticket sales and events beginning with a welcome in the cafeteria at 6:00pm. Each session will last 30 minutes and 5 minutes is allowed for rotation. The only session that requires tickets, is our Animal Adventures. All other sessions are open to attendees until the room fills. Attendees should be encouraged to travel between sessions during the scheduled rotations. No greater than 25 Animal Adventure tickets per rotation can be sold to meet Animal Room limitations. All other locations will be choice attendance within the scheduled rotation.
Attendance Update:
Congrats once again to the 5th grade, they earned PAWS for attendance for the highest monthly perfect attendance percentage for the second time this year. Rosenthal’s 4th grade class had the highest percentage for the whole school with 88%.
We are still down from last year’s average in regards to perfect attendance. Please make sure you are doing everything possible for your student to be Here Every Day, On Time.
