Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 23 - 7 August 2019
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We know that from their earliest moments, children grow in awareness of themselves and search for meaning and purpose in their lives and in the world around them. It is always heartening to know that our children are supported in this journey by the nurturing and love of their parents and families. As a school, working together with families, we can continue to support each other in the overall development and growing self-understanding and spirituality of our children.
First Holy Communion
Best wishes to all our Year Four students and their families as they prepare for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion over the weekend of 17/18 August. It is through Religious Education lessons that we develop knowledge, understanding, skills and positive dispositions about Christianity in the Catholic tradition, and it is through our practice that we develop in faith and grow as active contributors to the parish and wider community.
Leadership Conference
Last week I had the privilege of attending the Catholic Primary Principals Conference and being involved in some excellent professional development and conversations about leading in this era of significant change. If you are interested in learning more about the mind, brain and education field in terms of learning in the digital age, I would recommend looking up the following keynote speaker from our conference:
Tracey Tokuhama-Espinosa (Ph.D) www.thelearningsciences.com
I was certainly inspired by Aaron Tait and Dave Faulkner, presenters from EDUCATION CHANGE MAKERS www.educationchangemakers.com who fused best practice innovation approaches with the unique realities of K-12 education today. As such, they have been booked to work with our staff at the beginning of 2020, where we look forward to working together with two other schools and further developing in innovation and design thinking.
Cyber Safety Information Session
Thank you to Mr Mike Barns for organizing Paul Litherland from Surf Online Cybersafety to work with our Year 5 students on Tuesday and then present to parents last night. It was an excellent session and I very much encourage families to avail themselves of these opportunities as they become available. Protecting children from potentially harmful things on the internet as they learn about the need for safety and security online is incredibly important. It is equally important that we remember that enforcing safety isn’t necessarily just putting up a wall between the world and your child. It is about teaching them a set of core values and behaviours which will enable them to go online with awareness and knowledge, so that they can thrive on their own as young adults.
Thank you for your continued support.
Many blessings

It will involve morning sessions in the school gym where each grade will showcase one of the activities or experiments that they have participated in throughout the year. Students will be free to walk around and explore the stations of interest to them.
We are looking for any parent volunteers who either work in the Science field or have an interest in anything Science based. If you are happy to spare an hour or two on this morning, then we'd love to hear from you so please contact us on rebecca.godrich@cewa.edu.au

Contemporary Dance Group
Congratulations to the Year 6 girls involved in performing in the Christian Dance Section for CPAF at Mercy College yesterday. A performance of grace, reverence and talent. It was a moving and beautiful piece to watch amongst other schools. This was reflected in a fantastic report. Thank you to the parents who came down to support the girls!

School Choir - One Big Voice
Our choir students have been rehearsing for their performance at the One Big Voice concert being held in August. Hopefully these students have been accessing the online resources and practising the songs and actions at home.
Tickets are now on sale from Ticketek. We are performing in the matinee show at 12.30pm. Our school will be closest to the Beethoven section (green) and are standing at Podium 2. My understanding from information I have received is that section 215 would provide the best opportunity to see your child performing.
Please see below for seating details.
Please email me (steven.ostaszewskyj@cewa.edu.au) if you would like to ask a question. I will shortly be sending extra information regarding the performance home with your child.
