Teacher Requests for the 2023-2024 School Year
The staff who place the children into next year’s classes know the needs of the children extremely well-which is why the placement process completed by staff is so effective. As a result, we strive to limit the number of specific teacher requests.
If you feel your child has special factors that may impact his/her placement you may write Mrs. Ellinger a letter about those factors. I will only accept letters. We require that families let us know about such factors or characteristics of teaching instead of a specific teacher request. We will use this additional information during our placement process. Please submit a letter to Mrs. Ellinger by Friday, February 16, 2024.
We will continue to place all children in a warm and nurturing learning environment that will challenge them and help them grow. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Title l Parent Meeting with Mrs. Jacques

Books and Breakfast
Books and Breakfast- Thursday, February 8
Thank you to the PTO and Tietz’s Piggly Wiggly for sponsoring this awesome family event!
Books & Breakfast is a before-school event that takes place in the morning before school begins for the day. Students bring a parent or other adult caregiver to school at 7:45am to share in a light breakfast and spend some quality time reading together. February's Books & Breakfast will open earlier to allow families time to browse at the Book Fair after enjoying their breakfast. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Henschel (library) or Mrs. Jacques (room 12)!

Art with Mrs. Lewis
We are thrilled to announce that five of our students have been selected to showcase their artwork at the upcoming Wisconsin Youth Art Month show! These talented young artists have been working hard and their dedication has truly paid off.
All the works will be on display for the regional show at The Neville Museum in Green Bay from January 23rd through February 22nd. After the regional show students will have the opportunity to have their work chosen to move onto the state show that will be held at the East Towne Mall in Madison from March 2-22nd. This is a great honor for these students and we are very proud of the work they have done.
Students have been working on some amazing new projects including beautiful monoprints created with Gelli plates by the 4th graders, as well as wonderful glazed snail sculptures in Kindergarten. Each piece is a unique reflection of the artist's individual style and creativity. We have also been working self-portraits in 2nd grade while 1st grade has started making clay fish after finishing their golden Kilmt cats. There is also a large mural hanging in the office that almost all of the students contributed to. They created paint drips and they were attached to a board to create a mural that is hanging for everyone to see.
Please go to our school’s Artsonia page to see what students have been working on. If you sign up for Artsonia you can see your child’s work, comment on it, or even share it with others! Our school code for joining is PZ6KR8YM. You will enter your email and connect with your child(ren). You will also have the opportunity to purchase numerous products with any of the artwork you choose on it.
Music with Mrs. Barrett
Congratulations to Northview students for excellent winter concert performances! Toes were tapping, people were singing, students were smiling and singing from the heart. A joyous way to begin the winter break and the New Year! In all, five 30-minute winter concerts were presented on stage, and an intimate 4K Sing was shared in the Northview music room for parents. The learning of music concepts will continue into 2024; singing, dancing, defining, notating, playing recorders/guitars, etc.
Junior Kindergarten
Kindergarten
Happy New Year! The kindergarteners are off to a great start in the new year. December was packed full of special holiday activities, including gingerbread baking and decorating, a holiday concert, caroling, and classroom gift exchanges. We are looking forward to being back in the classrooms and getting ready for winter assessments. Kindergarteners will participate in the winter i-Ready diagnostic and several grade level assessments. The end of first semester and report cards will wrap up the month of January.
Throughout the month, kindergarteners will be continuing several units. In readers workshop, kindergarteners are learning how to give the gift of reading to others by using patterns, snap words, and letters and sounds to read. In phonics, we are practicing being word scientists by studying alphabet charts to learn more about letters and sounds. In writers workshop, kindergartners are learning how to show and tell about things that are important to them through pictures and words. In math, we have just begun Unit 3 and will be learning about tens and ones in teen numbers, addition, and subtraction.

Third Grade Science
Patterns and Motion
The third grade teachers received science training on a patterns and motion science kit from Einstein Science in December, and we are ready to begin the unit. Our students are excited and ready too!
In this unit students will explore how objects can exert forces on other objects, and predict an object’s future motion based on observations of patterns of motion.
The third graders will use models and carry out investigations. They will look for patterns and discover cause and effect relationships between objects and their motion. Students will finish the unit by solving a design challenge.
These investigations are a great way for our students to work collaboratively, pose and answer questions, use their data, and apply science and engineering practices.
Science is fun and motivating! It is a wonderful way to grow our students’ minds!
4th Grade
We hope that all of you had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed some quality family time. The beginning of a new year is an exciting time to energize ourselves with fresh ideas and goals for the future! Our next units will be the American Revolution, and Equations and Word Problems. We look forward to continuing learning and growing together, and wish you all a happy and healthy 2024!
Counseling Corner with Mrs. Pfeifer
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
We’d like to thank everyone who contributed toward our Virtual Angel Tree and/or participated in the $1 hat day this past holiday season. We were able to help 8 families with holiday gifts, clothing, and household necessities. Between Northview and the Middle School, we raised over $500 from the $1 hat day! Every cent went toward purchasing items on family wish-lists. We feel very fortunate to be part of a community that is so willing to help others in need! Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. We look forward to helping families again next year!
Character Development
Last month, Northview students learned about the character traits of Kindness and Empathy. We talked about being a kind friend and learned that Empathy means to understand and care about how someone else is feeling. All Northview students contributed to our school-wide kindness project by decorating a paper snowflake. Students had to think of one way to show kindness here at school, and then they got to decorate and color their snowflake. The theme for this project is "There are SNOW many ways to be kind at Northview!". Snowflakes are displayed in the hallway that leads to the lunchroom. Check it out next time you're here!
For the month of January, we are learning about the character trait of Growth Mindset. We will learn that our brain is like a muscle and that taking on challenges gives our brain the exercise it needs to grow and get stronger. We will learn to embrace mistakes and to use the "Power of Yet" to persevere through challenging times. In doing so, we will learn to flip our negative self-talk into positive self-talk!
