Deerfield Elementary

Weekly Happenings

March 1st - 6th

Dear Deerfield Families,

This past Tuesday, during Doctor Matthews monthly building visit, our fourth graders presented him with 92 persuasive essays on why we should have a Snow Day. On Friday our 92 fourth graders were rewarded with Doctor Matthews' famous homemade cookies. He told them, their letters were so good, it not only earned Novi one snow day but two! Thank you Doctor Matthews; the cookies were thoroughly enjoyed.

Make A Blanket Day

What: Make a Blanket Day: Walled Lake/Novi presented by Kroger

Where: Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI

Who: Residents, students, companies, and organizations of Walled Lake, Novi, and other surrounding communities

Why: Every year, 30,000 kids in Michigan have to stay in the hospital for extended periods of time. They all deserve color, comfort, and connection. At this event, we have a goal to make 1,000 fleece blankets and each one with a video message of support for the patient that receives it!

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences

The spring parent teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, March 19th by appointment only. If the teacher/parent feel a conference is needed, the teacher will be reaching out to those involved to schedule a time. If you feel you need to meet with the teacher, please let him or her know.

March Is National Reading Month

How do you get your kids to read? Make it FUN! The Deerfield PTO March is Reading Month Action Team and Ms. Taylor have put together an optional, fun reading activity calendar for the month of March to primarily be used at home (only a few of the activities are school-based) to encourage students to read. There is a different, fun reading activity for every day of the month. Students that choose to use the calendar will earn rewards based on the number of activities completed. In order to earn reading rewards, you must complete the calendar by MARCH 31st. Please have your student turn their completed calendar in to Ms. Taylor in the Media Center.

Reading Ambassadors

*SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE* March 2nd-5th. There are classes that still have spots available for a parent/grandparent/family member to come in and read. Bring in your child's favorite book to read during their media time! KIDS love this! Sign up through this link:
