14 April 2022 Newsletter
Rosehill College
From the Principal,
Tēnā koutou katoa,
It has been good to have all year levels onsite this week, but the stresses of this disrupted term are evident in the faces of our students, staff and community. Thank you to everyone for your support, perseverance and resilience during this difficult time. Senior students have had assessments in most subjects, and I encourage students to talk to their teachers if they have experienced circumstances that have caused them to fall behind in their work.
The school voted for their representative on the Rosehill College Board, and I am pleased to announce that Enzo Mowday, 10KWR, is the duly elected Student Representative.
Term 2 begins on Monday 2 May with all students onsite for their learning. If there is any change to this an email will be sent to all whānau and posted on our website, School App and Facebook page.
We are now at Orange on the Covid Protection Framework, but masks continue to be strongly encouraged when indoors. Wearing a mask is a key health measure that slows the spread of COVID-19 in indoor settings. For that reason, we ask that visitors to the school, including parents and whānau, wear a mask whenever they are indoors on school grounds. Students will be required to wear a mask for events such as assemblies when a large group of students are together, so we do ask students to continue to bring a mask. At Orange, students aged 12 and above are still required to wear a face mask on school or public transport.
We will continue to keep all the other health measures in place at school that we know slow the spread of COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, appropriate physical distancing whenever we can and, most importantly, staying home if we are sick.
We are looking forward to a few less restrictions and returning to school life that is a bit closer to normal.
New Principal at Rosehill College from Term 3
In January, I informed our Board that I will be retiring from my position as Principal at the end of next term. I am delighted to announce that the Board have appointed Davida Suasua to be the Principal of Rosehill College from Term 3.
Davida Suasua comes to Rosehill College from Tangaroa College with leadership experience and knowledge within education. Her unwavering commitment to improving academic outcomes for students is what motivates her and ensures she is always reflecting on pedagogical understanding and practices.
Currently Davida sits on two boards, Haapai Tuuhono Trust and Auckland Marist Old boys Rugby Club so she is well versed in governance. A former World Cup Blackfern champion, who has led and won national titles in women's XV with Auckland Storm and Counties Heat, and a national 7’s title with Counties has also given her the skills to be an effective coach and leader.
Davida has resided in Ramarama and now Drury for close to 20 years but calls Taranaki and Tai Tokerau home.
