PTA Updates
Bolt Closet
We had a very successful first year of opening the Franklin Bolt Closet. For families new to Franklin, this closet provides new and gently used clothing, new socks and underwear and all personal hygiene care items for the underserved students who are part of the Franklin family. We protect the students’ privacy by only having the counseling and health center staff know who utilizes the closet. Monthly we will feature one item the closet is in need of.
For September, we are accepting NEW socks and NEW underwear in both child and adults sizes.
We also accept monetary donations and have volunteer shoppers for the Bolt Closet. Thank you for your support and helping to ensure every student comes to school clean, appropriately dressed and ready to learn!
Agenda & Budget Items
iReady @ Franklin
We are embracing a new opportunity this year at Franklin. Three times during the year all students will experience the iReady diagnostic in both literacy and math. The purpose of this online tool is to track the growth of students. Our first diagnostic took place this week and will serve as our baseline for data telling us what our students know and are able to do. Then in our professional learning communities (PLCs) math and ELA teachers will use the data to plan next steps for teaching and learning. The teaching plans could include whole class lessons, small-group lessons, and tailored individual practice work.
The windows for the assessments this school year are listed below. Our hope is that the data we have from iReady will help guide our communications with you about student learning. Please encourage students to take their time and do their personal best. We are excited about the potential this tool will bring to the teaching and learning environment.
- Diagnostic 1 Window: September 9-13, 2019
- Diagnostic 2 Window: January 13-24, 2019
- Diagnostic 3 Window: May 11-22, 2019
What is iReady?
i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your child’s teacher(s) determine your child’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your child’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Instruction.
