Putting students first!
We have had a great start to the year!
It has been a great start to the 2018-19 school year! It hardly seems possible that we are almost in week three. Our young students have learned classroom expectations, learned how to move around the cafeteria, made friends at recess, and have already started to be readers, writers and mathematicians.
One of our goals every year is teaching students positive characters traits. We want to teach students to be positive citizens. We are going to use a movement called the Positivity Project this year to help with this. This movement has resources for teachers to teach positive character traits in multiple ways-through books, age appropriate videos, modeling, etc. Positivity Project has a website at www.posproject.org.
With teaching the character traits, we also want our students to know the Kearsley "B-Code"-Be Respectful, Be responsible, Be ready. We want students to always be respectful to others. One important way to show this with teachers at school is to listen and work hard. A way to think about this with friends is to think, "How do I want to be treated?" We want students to be responsible by taking care of supplies, backpacks, folders and to be responsible for their work and get it done. We want students to be ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to follow directions. Please discuss the "B-Code" at home with your child.
We all, the Weston Staff, are very excited for this school year. We have been working hard to prepare the building for our students. We look forward to a wonderful school year with parents and guardians as our partners in education.
Help your child start off the school year by:
- Getting 8-10 hours of sleep each night
- Eating healthy foods
- Reading together 10-15 minutes each night
- Eating dinner together if possible
- Being a mathematician (count, discuss shapes, problem solve)
- Writing stories, grocery lists, sight words, etc.
- Talking about the school day-ask questions specific to the day
- Having conversations
- Limiting tablet/computer/phone time to 15-30 minutes a day
