Principal Notes
Dear Cimarron Parents,
Thank you for a great start to the school year. Transitioning from summer to the early mornings and structures of school is always challenging for students and parents. Despite this transition, we are so impressed with all of the students’ excitement to come into school the last couple of weeks.
Cimarron’s theme for 2019-20 school year is “Make Your Mark”. At Cimarron we celebrate each student as an individual who has unlimited potential. We want every student to thrive at Cimarron as we celebrate our differences and our goal to “champion the individual”!
Each student’s family impacts his/her ability to become successful. It is our responsibility as parents to model and speak to our children about our values. Here is a quote for you to keep in mind as students start school. “Family support is a stress buffer. Teens whose families provide companionship, problem-solving and emotional support are less likely to become depressed after exposure to severe stress” --Journal of Family Psychology
As we kick off a new school year, please know that our staff is here to partner with you. Let us know if you need support, resources or ideas Thank you again for a great start to the school year.
Grade Level Assistant Principal Letters
STEP Parent Letter
We would like to share a unique and exciting opportunity with your child. As our core, Cimarron Middle School is committed to our students and providing an exceptional experience that supports and enhances their personal growth. To help achieve this goal, we have the opportunity to participate in an exciting and innovative experience that will enhance student’s awareness of self and ownership of their learning.
I-Ready Testing
What is the I-Ready Diagnostic?
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your child’s learning.
Meet our new SRO Officer Essman!
Thank you all so much for welcoming me to the Cimarron family. I already love being here and am so excited and ready to get to know everyone. While I am new to the SRO position here at Cimarron I already know many of you and your students. Last year I was Parker School's Y.E.S.S. Instructor and see many familiar faces in the halls.
For those of you that don't know me or are not familiar with SRO's in schools some of my duties here include, school safety, Y.E.S.S. instruction, criminal investigations (when needed) and building relationships between students, staff and law enforcement.
Your administration and I are already working hard to keep Cimarron safe, with prevention, training and relationship building.
I look forward to a great first year and hope that you contact me with any questions you have.
Safety Update
Standard Response Protocol Information
School Safety
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by school and district administration and staff
SRP Is Action Based
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based not on individual scenarios but on the response to any given situation. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP demands a specific vocabulary but also allows for great flexibility. The premise is simple - there are four specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a "Term of Art" and is then followed by a "Directive." Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders.
Cimarron Safety Letter
We are ready for a great start for the 2019-20 school year! As you know, safety is our number one priority at Cimarron Middle School and in the Douglas County School District. Please read the linked letter.
To find out more about Standard Response Protocol (SRP), please watch the video below and follow this link to the I Love You Guys Foundation.
