Forty-eight CUSD students earned the AP Capstone Diploma for 2022-2023 (12 students at Basha HS and 36 at Hamilton). The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are essential for academic success.

To receive the AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams.

This year National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from this Friday, September 15th through Sunday, October 15th. The theme is: "Prosperity, Progress, and Power."

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

The district recognized our contributions at the school board meeting on September 13th. Two of our Hamilton seniors, Maria Gonzalez and Ariadna Mendez, were recognized for their Hispanic Excellence, two more of our Hamilton students danced folklorico, and our counselor Margarita Truillo's daughter was the master of ceremony for the event.

Also, MEChA and Spanish Honors Society will be volunteering at the City of Chandler Contigo Event and highlighting the culture of Chile.

Chan Kim (Hamilton grad Class of 2008) played on Hamilton's state championship team in 2007 and went on to play at ASU. Meet Tiffany Ticlo, Miss Arizona. Tiffany graduated from Hamilton High School in 2020. On September 11, she spoke to a room full of business leaders about how her experiences in CUSD set her up for success after graduating. Before Hamilton she attended CTA Independence and ACP MS Oakland campus.

Beginning after fall break, student personal laptops will not be permitted any longer. All students will be expected to have their school-issued laptop charged & ready for use.

The front office does not hold items for students (lunches, homework, laptops, phones, sports equipment, instruments, etc.). If an item(s) must be dropped off, there are tables located in the main entry area. All items are left at your own risk. Hamilton staff is not responsible for monitoring any items left nor will they relay messages to students to retrieve any items. We also do not accept any food delivery services, including Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc.

Bring Change to Mind club chalked the main entrances of our school to spread positive messages and share resources for all students to see for suicide prevention month.

All entries will be displayed at one of the Chandler Public Libraries for the month of December and winners will be announced at the 29th Chandler Multicultural Festival on Jan. 13, 2024.

Drive up to the library and volunteers will be on hand to unload your car. Drop off locations include Basha, Downtown, Hamilton, and Sunset Libraries. Your donations will help us build stock for our book sales in our libraries and online. Proceeds from used book sales are used to fund library programs and services.
