Country Basics

The name of my country is Lebanon. Lebanon, officially the Lebanese Republic, is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south. The capital of lebanon is beirut. "The Flag of the Lebanon is constructed of red, white and red horizontal stripes, with a green cedar (tree) in the centre of the white stripe. The width of the white stripe is equal to the width of the two red stripes together.

Geography

Lebanon stands on the continent Asia. If you did not already know Lebanon lies at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, north of Israel and west of Syria. It is four-fifths the size of Connecticut. Lebanon is a mostly mountainous country, east and west, separated by the fertile Bekaa Valley. A narrow coastal strip of land fronts the Mediterranean Sea. There are multiple landmarks in Lebanon. Their is Jeita Grotto which is a cave 9 kilometers,National Museum of Beirut,René Moawad Garden, and much more.

Goverment

Lebanon is a CONFESSIONALIST REPUBLIC.Confessionalism is a political system where individuals in a society have different political rights because of which religious community they ascribe to. Michel Suleiman vacated the presidency at the end of his six-year term in May 2014, leaving behind a political vacuum chiefly caused by the fallout from the civil war in neighboring Syria.The Lebanese people don’t elect their president. Parliament does. Andthe constitution gives MPs a timeframe during which to hold the vote. The highest law of the land says the legislature can convene in an electoral session (meaning they cannot pass new laws) as early as two months before the current president’s mandate expires on May 25.Lebanese Citizenship is the status of being a citizen of the Republic of Lebanon and it can be obtained by birth or naturalisation.

Economy

Lebanon is a wealthy country. But some of there cities are not as well. In Lebanon there money is called pounds. Lebanon pounds are is the currency unit of Lebanon.The standard three letter code for Lebanese pound that you often see when using a currency exchange calculator to convert currency to and from Lebanese pound is LBP. The main exported commodities are jewelry, base metals, chemicals, miscellaneous consumer goods, fruit and vegetables, tobacco, construction minerals, electric power machinery and switchgear, textile fibers and paper. The main commodities that Lebanon imports are petroleum products, cars, medicinal products, clothing, meat and live animals, consumer goods, paper, textile fabrics, tobacco, electrical machinery and equipment, chemicals. If you did not already know that Lebanon life expectancy is 75.46 years, there birth rate is 1.50 births per woman (2012) and there literacy rate is 89.6.

Culture

Currently the people of Lebanon are very modern and perhaps Lebanon is the most fashionable country of the Arab world. The traditional and cultural clothing in the daily lives is very hard to find these days in the modern Lebanon. If you don't all ready know that Arabic is one of Lebanon major language. If you did not already know some Lebanon holidays well here they are. On the 27th of March is Easter Sunday. There is also Good Friday. One of Lebanon main dishis is there cusines. It also includes copious amounts of garlic andolive oil, often seasoned by lemon juice.; olive oil, herbs, garlic and lemon are typical flavors found in the Lebanese diet. Most often foods are grilled, baked or sautéed in olive oil; butter or cream is rarely used other than in a few desserts.

Climate

Lebanon has a Mediterranean climate characterized by long, hot, dry summers and short, cool, rainy winters. The climate is determined by Lebanons's location between the subtropical aridity of the African continent and the subtropical humidity of the eastern Mediterranean area. About 70 percent of the average rainfall in the country falls between November and March; June through August are often rain less. Lebanon average yearly temperature is 64.8°F.

History

Two historical events that happen in the early 1900 are France, granted the mandate for Lebanon and Syria by the League of Nations, forms the State of Greater Lebanon and Lebanon proclaims its independence from France on Nov. 26, 1941. If those two major events hadn't happen then there would have been no Lebanon or independence.

Compare and contrasts

If you did not already know, Lebanon celebrates Easter Sunday like the United States. ebanon has a free-market economy and a strong laissez-faire commercial tradition. The Lebanese economy is service-oriented; main growth sectors include banking and tourism. In 2011, major U.S. exports to Lebanon were mineral fuel and oil, vehicles, machinery, pharmaceutical products, and cereals. The U.S. and Lebanon have signed a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement to help promote an attractive investment climate, expand trade relations, and remove obstacles to trade and investment between the two countries.
