Westridge Wildcat News

Message from the Principal

Dear Wildcat Families,

It was so wonderful to see our Westridge families this week! Teachers and staff are excited and eager to start working with our Wildcats. We have so many opportunities for things to go right as we start this year together!

A gentle reminder as we start the year, Westridge teachers will be communicating all information with parents through their newsletters and email. If parents have questions or concerns about their child's schedule, progress, or school experience they are encouraged to connect with the classroom teacher. Parents may choose to share their student's information with third parties, but the school will directly communicate with the student's parent or legal guardian only. It is every teacher's priority to build and nurture relationships between the teacher, student, and family as we move forward together!

Have a great long weekend!

Principal Montgomery

Tech Information Sessions

LOSD hosted two Tech Information Sessions covering the “how tos'' for getting started with distance learning. The session recordings and presentations are posted on the district site under Resources/Tech Support for Families.

Tech Support Ticket

A majority of tech concerns can be resolved by submitting a Tech Support ticket -- the link is on all school and district homepages for easy access to help with passwords, log-ins, hardware fixes, etc.

Google Classroom Guardianship

By now all parents and guardians should have received an email requesting you to accept guardianship of your student's Google Classroom. If you need assistance with this request, please submit a request through the Tech Support button. Note: accepting guardianship simply gives you the option of selecting how often you would like to receive summaries (weekly, daily, or no summary) of your student's Google Classroom activity. Only student accounts have access to Google Classroom.

Thank You to the Fifth Grade Class of 2020!

Our beloved "Bear Bench" has been beautifully restored! A HUGE thank you to John Goerges and the fifth grade class of 2020 for this incredible gift. We are so very fortunate to have such a talented and generous community! Students for many years to come will enjoy this popular gathering place and centerpiece of the front entry at Westridge.

The Westridge "Bear Bench" was dedicated on June 8, 1992 in honor of Edward (Ned) Hutchins. Ned was an educator for 26 years and this bench was dedicated in recognition of his caring and dedication to students.

Free Meals for All Children

LOSD is providing free packaged breakfasts and lunches for all children who wish to participate in our Grab & Go meal service. New flexibility from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) enables LOSD to provide free meals to all children ages 1 to 18, even if the children are not enrolled in LOSD, now through the end of December 2020.

Children do not need to sign up for meals. However, it would be extremely helpful for our food service team to be able to plan ahead for the number of meals to serve. If children in your care are interested in participating in the Grab and Go meal service, please click here to complete a 30 second form.

The free Grab and Go meal service begins next week. Due to Labor Day holiday, next week's meal pick up will be on Tuesday, Sept. 8. After that, starting Monday, Sept. 14, breakfast and lunch meals can be picked up on Mondays and Wednesdays at the following locations:

  • Lake Grove Elementary, 11 a.m. - 12 pm.

  • River Grove Elementary, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

  • Lake Oswego High School, 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

  • Lakeridge High School, 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

Meals should be picked up at the school site located closest to you. Children may participate in one or both days of the week; they may pick up 2 days of meals on Mondays and 3 days of meals on Wednesdays. Face coverings are required at pickups.

District Information - Verify Student Info Before Returning to School

Verify Student Info Before Returning to School

LOSD thanks all the parents who have already verified their students' information for the 2020-21 school year. If you haven't done so yet, please to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:

  • Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
  • Allowing parents to review the health conditions on file at your student's school.
  • Enabling distribution of electronic devices covered by the district's Technology Agreement

The verification window closes September 18, 2020.

If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school. Please note that verification is not part of the ParentVUE mobile app. However, a button in the app allows you to open verification in a web browser, or you can log into ParentVUE on a computer.

ODE State Assessment Notice

The Oregon Department of Education publishes an annual notice regarding state assessments in English Language Arts and Math. Please review the Annual Notice for Statewide Tests for information regarding why participation matters, an explanation of the right to opt out, testing windows, and other resources.

Student Services FAQ Now Available

In addition to the Student Services Plan for the 2020-2021 school year, LOSD has now posted an accompanying Frequently Asked Questions document. Both the plan and the FAQ can be accessed on the district website under Roadmap to Reopening/Student Services and Departments/Student Services.

This information is specifically for students with 504 Plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), as well as students in our ACCESS, Delta, Pathways, and Community Transition programs.
