It looks as though "Old Man Winter" is FINALLY closing the book on Fall and thanks to the New Prairie Cougars, we are unfortunately doing the same with our football season. Still, it was a GREAT RIDE on the gridiron and a FANTASTIC fall season of sports in The Friendly City!

Believe it or not, Winter Sports are already underway as the Lady Brickie cagers were "Dancing With Wolves" up & down the hardcourt this past week!

Don't forget to turn your clocks back ... it's time for BricksCenter!

Football

A stunned Brickie faithful emptied out of The Brickyard on Friday night as the New Prairie players & coaches celebrated their 2nd consecutive sectional championship and 8th in school history. Hobart entered the contest as a 14-point underdog against the #6-ranked Cougars in spite of a 5-game winning streak that saw our boys outscore their opponents 200-46. This one certainly had the build-up fitting of a sectional title!

The Cougars jumped on our boys early with two long touchdown runs in the first quarter and a 3rd TD to open the 2nd and take a commanding 21-0 lead. The Brickies responded quickly when senior back Trey Gibson scampered 61-yards for a score to give the hometown fans some life and shift the momentum in the stadium!! After another Cougar touchdown pushed the lead back to 21 points, Gibson scored again to help Hobart keep pace! Unfortunately, 28-14 is as close as the Brickies would get the rest of the night. New Prairie exploded for 3 more scores before the end of the half and took a commanding 49-14 lead into the locker room.

The Brickies came out swinging in the 3rd quarter and continued to battle throughout the remainder of the game. Hobart scored twice in the 2nd half - one by Gibson and the other on a pass from sophomore QB Noah Ehrlich to senior receiver Cody Johnston - to close the deficit. Unfortunately for Brickie fans, those would be the last scores of the fall as New Prairie ran the clock out and ended Hobart's season with a 49-28 defeat. Gibson finished with 26 carries for 183 yards and 3 TDs ... Johnston caught 3 balls for 24 yards and a score ... and senior kicker Ryan Pimentel was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points. For the Brickie D-D-D-DEFENSE, junior Bradley Gibson recorded 11 total tackles ... sophomore Willie Shearer had 8 ... and seniors Colton Charo & Noah Miller each added 6 in their final game.

Even though it ended sooner than we all hoped it would ... looking back, it was another GREAT YEAR for the Brickies - one that included a second straight Northwest Crossroads Conference Championship!

The Brickies finished 8-4 overall and 4-1 in NCC play. This group of seniors went to Lucas Oil Stadium as sophomores and over the last 3 years, they've witnessed and played a pivotal role in helping our varsity achieve an overall record of 27-11. WOW!! WHAT A RIDE!! CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Osika, his outstanding staff, and all of our boys for a job well done!

Girls

Two days after trick-or-treating, the Lady Brickies opened up the 2022-2023 season on Wednesday night against the Michigan City Wolves. The first period was INTENSE as both teams looked to shake out some jitters in game #1 and after 8 minutes of play, the score was knotted at 12. In the 2nd quarter of play, the Lady Brickies applied a SMOTHERING full-court press and created turnovers that turned into easy baskets!! Our girls outscored the Wolves 11-2 over the 1st 3 minutes of the period to go up 23-14 ... and by halftime, the Brickie lead had ballooned to 20 with the scoreboard showing a 40-20 advantage for Hobart!!

The pace slowed for both teams after coming out of the locker rooms, but the Lady Brickies still led 46-23 heading into the final stanza. Over the final 8 minutes, Hobart held off every run the Wolves tried to mount and earned an impressive 59-34 VICTORY!! Senior Asia Donald finished with a double-double of 36 points and 12 rebounds! Junior guard Jesse Neace added 12 points and sophomore Hallie Pendleton grabbed 8 rebounds to help our girls secure the win.

Saturday morning, the Lady Brickies were back at it ... this time against Boone Grove. The Wolves ... that's right, Boone Grove & Michigan City are both Wolves ... came out strong and challenged our girls through the first 8 minutes, trailing just 15-9. In a script that looked very similar to what transpired Wednesday, it was actually Hobart (and not the Wolves) that huffed ... and puffed ... and BLEEEEEWWWWW the game open in the 2nd quarter! The D-D-D-DEFENSE played by our girls was STIFLING and Boone simply had no answer. By halftime, it was 36-15 and the Lady Brickies never looked back!!

Final score: Hobart 62, Boone Grove 35

Donald poured in a game-high 25 points ... Neace chipped in 11 and sophomore Ladan Weinman added 7 in the victory!

Hobart is 2-0 on the young season and will need to be ROAD WARRIORS this next week with contests @ Kouts and @ Griffith. GOOD LUCK LADIES - LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!
