Principal News
Hello TRIS Families,
Winter Break is here! The last few weeks before a break can be challenging at a school. I am happy to report that staff did a wonderful job of keeping students learning and engaged and students did a wonderful job of sticking to routines and school-wide expectations. I am excited to begin 2020 with everyone at TRIS. I know that we will continue to do great things!
We will have a Celebration on December 21st. We will come together to have fun and celebrate our collective effort to bring in items for the Food Drive. I will have the pleasure of eating pie. Ms Frisque will also enjoy a pie. Check in with your child and look for pictures on Facebook.
We will be reviewing our school-wide expectations with students when we return in January as a mid-year refresher and continue practicing our safety procedures. Our front lobby will look different so stop by and check out our new print. Just a reminder that if school is ever delayed due to the weather, breakfast is not served. Our January professional learning day is on the 20th so students will not be in school. Second quarter and the first semester officially ends on January 24th and students will get out at noon so that teachers can work on report cards. It is hard to believe that we will be at the half way point of the year already!
Please encourage your child to read over break. It is so important to hold onto all of the growth made thus far this year. Thank you so much for all that you do to support TRIS and your child! Together we can make TRIS the best it can be, Please let me know if you have questions, ideas or concerns. My direct line is 882-3842 and my email is DornB@evansville.k12.wi.us.
Wishing you all a wonderful winter break and a Happy New Year!

LMC News
Recently, LMC time was extended! Students continue to check out books every other week, but now they also spend part of their LMC time learning keyboarding skills and getting creative with Makerspace activities. What's a makerspace? It's where students work collaboratively to get creative with DIY projects, invent new ones and share ideas. Some of our makerspace activities include: IO blocks, Ozobots, Bloxels, Strawbees, Spheros, LEGOS, Makedo, Dash and Dot robots, Circuitry and more!!!

Students have finished up another lesson within the Second Step Curriculum. Below you will find the breakdown of what each grade level focused on during their lesson this past week:
3rd Grade: Students started the emotion management unit. Students were introduced to a character that is struggling with test anxiety. Students are discussing the physiological signs that occur when one experiences strong emotions. Students are learning the importance of recognizing these physiological signs and discussing the potential consequences if we just react when dealing with strong emotions. Students shared that there are times they have said or done something that they normally wouldn’t do because they were experiencing a strong emotion such as; anxiety, anger, excitement, fear, and sadness. (Lesson 11)
4th Grade: Students started the emotion management unit. Students are learning about strong emotions such as anger, embarrassment, fear, and frustration. Students watched a video and identified a student’s triggers and were able to see how the brain reacts in these situations as well as other parts of the body such as the heart, lungs, and stomach. Students discussed the importance of recognizing these physiological signs and the importance of being able to calm down in these situations. Students will continue to focus on emotion management for the next 5 lessons.
(Lesson 10)
5th Grade: Students are also focusing on emotion management and calming down. Students also learned and discussed how the brain reacts to strong emotions as well as the body. Students are focusing on using a stop signal, such as telling themselves they need to “chill,” “hang on,” and “hold up.” Then they are being asked to work on identifying the feeling that they are experiencing in the situation or that the student in the video is experiencing. Students also shared situations in which they experienced a strong emotion and reacted in a way that hurt someone else whether it was physical or emotional. We discussed potential consequences for these situations and the importance of recognizing physiological signs and their triggers so they can calm themselves down.(Lesson 9)
Once again, if you need anything please feel free to reach out to me by phone 882-3847 or email mcnamaras@evansville.k12.wi.us. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life!

Process for Determining When to Close School
When weather conditions are severe, the Evansville Community School District follows a set of guidelines for determining if schools should be closed. The District will base a decision on what is best for all students. Individual family circumstances may vary. We encourage and strongly support you in making a decision that is best for your child(ren). You are always the best judge of your family’s health and safety.
Process for determining school closure due to severe weather:
- Information is gathered from multiple local and state weather forecasts.
- The District Administrator, Director of Building and Grounds, Ringhand Bus Company, and the Rock County Sheriff's Department determine if roads are safe for student travel.
- The District Administrator consults with other local School District Administrators.
Extreme cold:
When the National Weather Service issues a wind chill warning for Rock County during the school day, school will be closed. Schools will not necessarily be closed if there is a wind chill advisory for the county, but cancellation will be considered when an advisory shows temperatures may reach -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
School closings notification:
We make every effort to have a final decision prior to 6:30 a.m. We then communicate this decision to local news outlets, post information on our website (www.ecsdnet.org), through an automated phone call and in an email to all families. At times, we will post to social media, our website and news/radio stations prior to calls going out to families as we try not to place phone calls prior to 6 am.
After school activities when school is closed:
When Evansville schools are closed for the day, it also means that all activities scheduled in school buildings for that day are canceled. This includes all programs and all after school activities. Exceptions may be made based on changes in weather conditions.
Late starts and early dismissal during severe weather:
We try to start school on time and keep school open until the regular dismissal time if road conditions are safe. However, if you feel your child(ren) will be safer at home, it is up to your discretion to determine their attendance. Please notify the school office if absent, dropping off late or picking up early. If there is a 2-hour delay, there will not be morning 4K. Afternoon 4K will proceed as scheduled.
When schools are closed for other reasons:
When we close schools for reasons other than severe weather, a notification will be sent to local news outlets, a posting on our website (www.ecsdnet.org), through an automated phone call and in an email to all families. Depending on the circumstances for closing/delay, the District may limit information that is released to the public. Please know, the only reason this would be done would be to keep our top priority, the students, safe.
The safety of every child is our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding and your support when school closing decisions are made.
