About the Currituck
The Currituck Sound is located in Currituck Sound, NC. Estuaries provide goods and services that are economically and ecologically indispensable, they also provide natural nesting grounds for many organisms. The Currituck Sound is home to many plants and animals such as ducks, otters, deer, rabbits and sea grass. North River, South Channel, and Knotts Island Bay all feed into the Currituck Sound. Dredging is a major threat to estuaries, when bodies of water are dredged it damages the plants, oyster beds and stirs up sediment that clouds up estuary water. Another threat is excess toxins which can cause the over growth of plants that take up much of the oxygen in the water causing many other organisms to die.
