Hello Teens!
As we move into April, I wanted to reach out and thank you all for your participation in our virtual activities during the closure. Here's some more great virtual programs we have coming up for Teens:
We'll be doing the Teen Virtual Hangouts every Monday until we re-open, and we've moved them to 3pm to better accommodate your remote learning schedules. If you'd like to attend any hangouts, please reply to this e-mail and I will get you the Zoom Meeting link.
I've also attached an Indoor Scavenger Hunt to this email. We would love if you would participate and email us about the items you found. Get creative! Send us a collage of photos, a video, or whatever you can invent to showcase your scavenger hunt finds! A great place to make a free collage without making an account is www.befunky.com. I'm excited to see what you come up with! Email me at englewoodteen@gmail.com with your submissions.
Lastly, I wanted to let everyone know that due dates on all materials have been extended to April 17, so no worrying about late fees. Also, if you had any holds waiting for you when we closed, they'll still be here for a few days after we re-open.
Thanks so much and hope to hear from you soon!
Miss Corinne

Quarter 4 Grading
Due to remote learning for Q4, we will be adjusting our grading scale to ensure that our system is equitable for all, especially considering some of the roadblocks our students are facing that are out of their control. Therefore, the new grading scale that will be used by all teachers at EMS and ELA is as follows:
90--100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
69-0 P
For teachers who use a standards based grading scale currently, we can talk about how to adjust your scale to reflect the above letter grade scale.
If students receive a P, this means they received a "pass" for quarter four. This is a "compromise" of sorts that doesn't send a "hold harmless" message and encourages students to still participate and learn. The P indicates that a student did not accomplish all the standards compared to his/her peers, and likely has some gaps/deficiencies going forward.
Students' graded work should absolutely reflect whether they participated or not, mastered a skill or not, and so forth. However, it is unfair to penalize students who cannot access online learning. A grade of PASS (P) does not factor into a students' GPA.
The above details will not be shared out with all parents/students. This is our "internal" staff message.
Kids are Checking in....
Yesterday, Governor Polis announced suspension of the state law on the frequency and duration of employment performance evaluations for school districts, charters schools and BOCES licensed personnel, including teachers, special service providers, principals and administrators to enable schools and districts to focus on providing alternative learning opportunities for their students.
With the suspension of in-person learning and other disruptions caused by COVID-19, plenty of questions have arisen about educator licensing requirements, educator preparation programs, educator effectiveness requirements and educator development.
CDE created a frequently asked question page to answer your questions. Please visit the page...
If you are still having Zoom issues, you may need an update. Please send your individual webhelp request asap.
