Did you know? Each week until Spring Break we will be highlighting fun facts about Anthem School, enjoy!
- E.Q stands for Emotional Quotient - it is important that we focus on our IQ, or what we know, but it is also important to focus on our emotional health.
- All Things E.Q. reminds us of the 4 questions we should ask ourselves. 1. Am I being kind and helpful in this moment? 2. Am I using positive self-talk? 3. Am I making an honest effort? and 4. Am I focusing on solutions instead of problems?
- Most classes graph their results of LtoJ quizzes and when students earn a new high score, also called an All Time Best, they get special recognition and get to put a sticker on the bulletin board in the hallway.
- Our 3 B’s are Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. We earn Star Bucks for demonstrating the 3 B’s.
- Teachers participate in trainings on our early release days so they can continually learn new things. A growth mindset is important for everyone - students AND staff!
All Things E.Q.
The picture was created by my daughter when she was younger. She loved comics for a while and decided to make her own. I told her it's easier to write or draw about what you know and...she did! ;)
Our focus this week has been on creating quality work. Sometimes students rush through their schoolwork or chores because they want to move onto something else. Understandable, however doing something poorly doesn't always save time. For example, a student may have to re-do an assignment that was sloppy or incomplete.
More importantly, we want our kids to know the value of doing quality work. With Spring Break just around the corner, it's a great time to talk to your kids about creating quality work and finishing out the school year strong.
The motto for this week in school is:
I do my best because doing less is a waste of my time and potential.
Talking to your child about the value of a job well done is an important first step. While there is no magic wand (or I would have used one to get my daughter to clean up under her bed) simply talking about quality work and how it impacts your child and the people around them is a good place to start.
Here are five reasons you can share with you child why doing quality work is worth doing:
- Working calmly and carefully is actually less stressful than rushing through work.
- Turning in quality work feels good, rather than resenting the time spent working.
- School is more enjoyable when students make an effort to do their best.
- Doing quality work does not take that much more time than doing sloppy work.
- The benefits of doing good work outweigh the consequences of poor quality work.
Thank you for supporting these messages at home! I am happy to report that my daughter is now in college and keeps her room clean. While I would have liked to have seen the results sooner, it appears they do hear us after all!
