Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, April 16, 2021
Message from the Principal:
As we enter the 4th marking period, I can honestly say this is the first point in nearly 13 months that school has felt somewhat...normal. Having students back in the building five days a week, seeing kids run around the track for practice, and hearing planning conversations for Prom have brought us closer to what we all remember school to be. Even the many safety protocols have become so routine that they are less distracting and have simply morphed into a new normal. It feels really good to get to this place.
I'd like to publicly thank all of our staff members and especially our teachers who have had to reinvent how they approach their craft multiple times over the course of the pandemic. Their dedication, hard work, and willingness to go above and beyond have truly helped our students. Parents - your patience, understanding, and unwavering support is also much appreciated. This entire experience has not been easy for you.
This week's newsletter contains a number of congratulatory sentiments. Individual students are honored for various noteworthy accomplishments. Really fun and engaging lesson samples are shared. But, I wanted to highlight Mr. Richardson, in particular, for being chosen by the Phillies as one of ten 'honorable mention teachers' for 2021! He will be honored at a game on May 3. Everyone in our school community knows the caliber and character of Mr. Richardson and how deserving he is of this award!
Enjoy your weekend!
In partnership,
Dr. Vivadelli

Congratulations to Mr. Richardson
Congratulations to Mr. Robert Richardson, one of our sixth grade math teachers, on being chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies as one of ten honorable mention teachers. The Phillies are celebrating area educators during the 21st Annual Teacher Appreciation Night on Monday, May 3.
Each year, the Phillies select ten area teachers, nominated by current and former students, parents, and peers to honor as All-Star Teachers. Mr. Richardson was nominated by Nathan Mcilvaine and his mother, Liz Mcilvaine, noting his outstanding dedication, teaching, and mentoring provided to his students as well as his time spent as the JHS Soccer and Track Coach.
Please join us on this fun evening honoring educators who make a difference in the region. Game time will be 7:05 pm and the Phillies will be playing against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Exploding Gummy Bears in Chemistry Class
Ms. Thomulka’s Chemistry classes used this demo to test the students' knowledge on balancing equations and identifying types of chemical reactions. Potassium chlorate decomposes and then reacts violently with the sugar in the gummy bear to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Please watch the video below to see how much fun Chemistry can be!
