UNIVERSITY SIGNING DAY & FIRST "ACADEMIC HALL OF FAME" INDUCTION
Academic Hall of Fame".
Dani Marco Gaffen (2008) and Connor Richards (2012) returned to the Wolf Pack to share their journey through college and successes since graduation. Reassuring members of the Class of 2022, Dani noted that "the growth and learning they had experienced at West Hills would continue at university and to remain open to what life brings you. I was focused on becoming a doctor until my own mother had a health crisis that required her to be on an IV liquid nutrition presecription that literally saved her life. That showed me the power of nutrition, health and wellness, and that I could channel my passion to serve others as a licensed nutritionist and it was "okay" that I wasn't choosing to continue 8 more years of study to become a doctor".
Connor inspired students and their famiies by relating his own senior year "ups and downs...and mainly down when it came to college acceptance". He shared that "I expected to get into every Ivy League and top university I applied to and would have my "pick" of schools. It didn't happen for me that way. When it came down to it, I attended the only university that accepted me. And that turned out to be the best decision of my life. From there, I applied to and attend Cambridge University to get my degree in advanced mathematics and Physics. That program is considered the most difficult degree to earn in the WORLD and I worked harder than I ever had--except for my junior year here at West Hills. So don't worry--West Hills has prepared you for ANY college experience! The teachers and staff here are OUTSTANDING at what they do and with hard work and continue to set your eyes on your goals, you will do GREAT...whether the school you are attending is your first choice and you are thrilled, or if, like me, you feel right now NOT as thrilled but you are heading off to make it what you will".
Our students and families in the audience were excited and insprired by Dani and Connor. They got to come up on stage and "sign" their University acceptances and have about 200 folks cheer them on! A huge THANK YOU to Assistant Principal Mrs. Gaeir for making this happen along with the invaluable assistance of GIS' Ms. Correa and Ms. Womack! We plan to make this an annual event and look forward to the Class of 2023 and their celebration!
