Girls on the Run is SO much fun!

Hey Coach (insert your name here)!

We need YOU to lead our Girls on the Run program next fall as a head coach! (We also need more assistant coaches!!) Otherwise, Maple Dale will not be able to have a team. Please consider taking on this rewarding position. Below are some things to consider…

*The deadline to register a team for Maple Dale is June 1, 2019.

*The fall 2019 season runs from September 9th to November 16th. (5K on the 16th)

*Practice is twice a week for 10 weeks.

*Head coach takes care of registration paperwork. (See application by clicking this link: https://www.raceplanner.com/siteapplication/signup/PJEAUXX2UXU6YVV)

*Head coach needs to have current CPR training by September 1st.

*Coaches receive one day of training about Girls on the Run program and a brand new curriculum. Training is offered various dates in August – three weekends to choose from and one weekday; dates TBD.

*Program for third and fourth grade girls. (16 girls on all teams) If head (or assistant) coach is a parent, their child gets an automatic slot. Other slots are allotted via a random computerized lottery through the GOTR office.

*If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Jen Thiel at thielj@sycamoreschools.org ASAP.

End-of-Year All Pro Dads Breakfast - May 8th

Please join us at the last Maple Dale Elementary All Pro Dads breakfast of the school year on Wednesday May 8th from 8-9am in the school cafeteria. This free monthly breakfast is sponsored by fathers, Chick-fil-A, and the PTO.

The meeting theme is honesty. Honesty is a core value that we should teach our children. This quality will breed trustworthiness that will lead to later success as they grow. If your children want to be hired by future employers or build healthy relationships, they have to be trustworthy.

If attending, please RSVP by Sunday May 5th via the link below so the correct amount of food is ordered.

Reminders- please do not walk your child to their classroom, please park down at the district offices to free parking spaces for staff members, and please be aware that a school delay or closure cancels the breakfast.

Green Team Tip of the Week

Waste Free Lunch

Thank you to all who packed a waste free lunch last week. The goal was to raise awareness and encourage the children who pack lunches to reduce the trash that gets sent to a landfill by bringing their food in reusable containers. If you currently pack with single use disposables, please consider purchasing some containers that can be used every day and buying snacks in bulk. The containers don’t have to be expensive and it only takes a few minutes to wash them at the end of the day- a task most kids can do themselves! The random winners of the reusable containers are Mary McCosham, Kina Peiris and Irina Oliynyk.

When your child buys lunch, please encourage them to reduce their waste by avoiding straws and only taking what they will eat. They can also be careful with only putting the food they couldn’t finish in the compost bin (when they throw trash in the compost, it becomes contaminated and it all ends up in the landfill).

Together, the students at Maple Dale can make a difference with their lunch choices.

Heart Shaped Seed Paper

In an effort to save paper and avoid packaging, here are the instructions for the seed paper your child might have brought home. Soak the paper in water overnight, tear it up, put it in some soil in a sunny spot and cover it up with about 1/4 inch of soil. Water lightly and keep it watered and you should be rewarded with some pretty wildflowers after a while. For the best chance of success, I'd recommend waiting until the 2nd week of May to plant.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR ANNUAL PTO VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCHEON!

No matter where or when you volunteered at Maple Dale this year we would love the opportunity to THANK YOU for the time, energy, and talent that you have given to Maple Dale students and staff this school year!

When : Friday, May 17th from 1:15-3:15 pm

Where: Envision Cinemas located at 4780 Cornell Road in Blue Ash

Technology Safety Talk is BACK at Symmes Elementary - May 8, 2019

Are you questioning whether your child should have a phone, Ipod, Ipad, Chromebook or any other electronic device at home? What apps are appropriate and how can we keep our children safe while using electronics?

Keeping our children safe in this digital age is a concern we all face as parents, especially with the easy access to electronics that our children have.

Special Guest: Steve Smith

Stephen J Smith, President, A Wired Family LLC, is a former high school coach and teacher who also has over 25 years of experience in the world of film, video, and interactive media development. For the past 17 years he has worked exclusively in the telecommunications industry.
