Safety Reminders
Drop off and Pick up Reminders
The number of families that opt to transport their children to and from school increases during these winter months. In order to maintain safety, I am resending our arrival and dismissal procedures. Please take note of the items that have been highlighted. Some families have commented that there are cars that are “cutting” the line that forms on Linneman from Huber. In order to avoid conflict, we ask that please you do not attempt to enter the Linneman line at the four-way stop (Huber/Crowley) and instead proceed to the back of the line.
- Do not drop your child off before 8:35, there is no supervision until 8:35.
- Please have your child ready to disembark so as not to disrupt the flow upon arrival. Supervisors will support by opening the door if needed.
- Do not park on Wedel as it makes it difficult for cars to pass through and causes jams.
- Neighbors have complained about folks parking in their driveway to drop their children off at school, please do not park in a stranger's driveway.
- Neighbors have also complained about folks not following the 20 mph speed limit on Wedel and Prarie Lawn.
A big THANK YOU to our supervisors who continue to make sure that our students transition safely on a daily basis!
Thank you for your support!

Your Input on Your Child’s School: 5Essentials Survey
Dear District 34 Parents,
Have you taken the 5Essentials Parent Survey yet?
Your input on this statewide survey -- given to parents of all students throughout the state of Illinois -- allows us to help us improve our schools for our students. As a parent, taking the survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered for the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Prior research in more than 400 schools shows that schools strong on at least 3 of the 5Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.
Please click here to take the parent survey. We ask that you take the survey for each school in which you have a child. We will be pleasantly persistent in the coming weeks as we hope to reach 100% participation before the survey closes on March 31, 2023. We plan to use the results of this year's survey to give us a clear picture of our schools' climate and culture. If at least 20% of parents participate in the survey, a parent supplement report will be generated and we will share these results with the community.
Student Survey
Students in grades 4-8 also will be given the opportunity to take this survey. Per Board Policy 7:15, you have the right to review the survey questions and decide if you do not wish your child to participate. Click here for the questions. The schools will be administering the survey to students starting at the end of this month. If you do not wish your child to take the survey, please email both me and your child's principal by January 31, 2023
