STILLSON SPIRIT
April 2021 Newsletter
Dear Stillson Families,
We had great attendance at our virtual March conferences! Thank you for taking the time to join a Google Meet for our conferences. We had an awesome 96% attendance!!! I hope that you received valuable feedback from your teachers on how well your child is doing in school.
We have started the state test for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade with an extended window of time to complete it and less test items for our students since they did not take it last year. The only grade level that took the state test before is 5th grade and it was in the 2018-19 school year. We have spent time practicing using the technology tools and answering sample questions to get our students acclimated to the test. All students will complete the test by the end of April.
We will start back to school, five days a week on April 5!! There will be one change for students......When your child is out of school for an extended period of time, we will provide school work similarly to how we did it in the past (pre-COVID). Although staff may, as an option, still invite students to join their classrooms through Google Meets and do their school work through Google Classroom. However, there will not be any recorded lessons for students to view.
Superintendent Jeff Holmes has included a letter below to announce the new Stillson principal that will start next school year. We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Jenny Sarauer coming to Stillson! Already this spring, she will be attending meetings at Stillson and meeting our students which is a great way for everyone to get to know her and welcome her to Stillson!
Yours in Stillson Student Success,
Mrs. Carol Wilczek

New Principal Announcement
Dear Stillson Families,
As you already know, Mrs. Carol Wilczek has decided to retire at the end of this school year. We are delighted for her as she moves on to the next chapter of her life! With this retirement, the District has determined that we will make some adjustments to our principal team due to the declining student enrollment of the District.
Therefore, Mrs. Jenny Sarauer, current principal at Jim Falls Elementary, will be transferred to Stillson Elementary as the new principal. Mrs. Sarauer has been in the role of elementary principal for the past seven years and comes to Stillson Elementary with a wealth of experience and knowledge of the District. She is excited about her new role at Stillson and is looking forward to scheduling some meet and greets with all of you before the school year starts in the fall. The hope is that these opportunities are in-person but that will be determined over the summer.
The District thanks you for your continued support of Stillson Elementary and the education of your children.
Sincerely,
Jeff Holmes
Superintendent
CFAUSD

Parent Engagement Survey
Dear Stillson Families,
Our Parent Satisfaction Survey offers you an opportunity to reflect on your child’s/children’s school environment. Collecting these data allows us to recognize the good work that many in the district accomplish every day, and to identify gaps in performance that should be addressed.
We have 74 family responses to date; thank you! If you have not yet participated, please access the survey here for an opportunity to provide feedback: CFAUSD Parent Satisfaction Survey.
It remains open through April 9, 2021.
Thank you.

A Farewell Message from Mr. Hanson
Dear students, families, PTO volunteers, and Stillson staff, and others,
I have been teaching Art at Stillson Elementary school for 28 years of my 35-year career in Art education. Over the years, I have had opportunities to transfer to other school communities, but chose to reaffirm my commitment to Stillson because of the strong support in our community. As an educator, I have witnessed ongoing core values of family devotion, compassion, and commitment to the growth and well-being of the needs of children. It has been my pleasure to serve our community and work with all of you in drawing out abilities, emerging skills and gifts within children. I have had the privilege of instilling a love for learning in the minds and hearts of children through the world of Art. It has been a joy, and I will miss it.
On a personal note, I plan to continue teaching in a private school for a few more years. A life-long career in teaching is hard to give up, and I hope to continue awhile, as I am enabled. My father was also an Art teacher, and continued teaching ten years after his retirement. He is now 96 years old, so it will be interesting to see if I can attain to his level passion and endurance. I am in God’s hands.
I want to take this opportunity to say farewell and to thank you all for the awesome privilege to serve as an educator at Stillson!
Sincerely,
Joel Hanson, Art Instructor

Teacher Request Form for 2021-2022 School Year
We discourage parents from requesting class assignments for their children. We work hard to achieve a balance between the classes at each grade level. This balance takes into account academic achievements, boy/girl ratio, and behavior concerns. Any request makes this far more difficult.
If a request is made, it must be in writing with very specific reasons for the request (forms are provided upon request from Mrs. Prater.) Educational reasons must be the primary focus of the request. The school team will consider your request when making the final decision.
Requests must be submitted no later than April 15.
There is no guarantee that parent requests will be honored. The balance of the classes as described above is of most importance.
Please email Mrs. Prater for an electronic version of our Teacher Request Form .

Cartridges for Cash
We are collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges to turn in for cash! We have partnered with a company that will pay us for our empty cartridges and issue a check for their value on a monthly basis.
Most empty inkjet cartridges are worth $1 to $2.50 each, and some laser cartridges are worth up to $8.00! Our “paycheck” could add up fast, so please help by bringing all the cartridges you use!
Here’s how you can help:
· Don’t put empty cartridges in the trash!
· Please bring all empty cartridges to the LMC.
· Bring empty cartridges from home and add to the collection (and our check!)
They will also take our recycled and refurbished cartridges to dispose in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
