Mrs. Eske's Team: Building Leaders
4th Grade Newsletter * Week of August 29-September 1
From the Desk of Mrs. Eske:
Ready for "SMORE" fun in Fourth Grade???
I hope that everyone's weekend plans consisted of some rest, relaxation, lots of smiles, and a heaping side of FUN!! Even though the weekend seemed to fly by super fast, I am looking forward to the second full week of school!!! This week we will continue to participate in "Smore" class/teambuilding activities, practice "Smore" of the 7 Habits of Healthy Kids, and start even "Smore" curriculum; including science and explorations! Now that I have email addresses for most of our families, I will be emailing our SMORE Newsletter to families each week, in addition to posting on our Class Facebook page. (Mrs. Eske's Fourth Grade Class)
This past Friday I forwarded last week's newsletter to all of the families that I had emails for. I did notice that in order for you to be able to view the newsletter, you have to scroll all the way down to the original message, and click on the link that follows this example from last week...

In Other News...
We will begin our IREADY Reading test tomorrow, during our computer (special area) class. The following week we will take the IREADY test in math. Students will be provided with temporary Chromebooks to use in the classroom to test, while awaiting our official IGNiTE deployment day!! (September 12th) This is the day when students will be bringing home their own "assigned-personal" device to use for the remainder of the school year.
Once I have an opportunity to check out our IREADY results, I will begin placing students in reading and math groups that will hopefully be a "Just Right" fit for them!
We have a busy week ahead of us, but looking forward to us learning, living, and leading together!!!
Mrs. Eske
Building LEADERS one subject at a time!
Reading: This week in reading we will continue to set the foundation for Reader's Workshop. We will establish Guidelines for Reader's Workshop and continue making
text-to-text, text-to-self, text-to-world, and word-in-text connections.
Math: We will be reading, writing, ordering, and comparing numbers to 100,000.
Science: We will begin our first unit on matter!!
Writing: In writing, we will finish our I-MAP final copies for Open House, take our beginning of the year writing assessment, and continue using "Thinking Stems" to help us when writing about our reading.
** Just a friendly reminder that we will not have "assigned" homework this year in fourth grade. However, students may have to bring "unfinished" work home to complete, if they do not finish in class. Another exception to bringing home work would be if they are absent and have make up work to do. I do highly encourage students to use Lexia and Dreambox at home to provide additional support in reading and math. I will be sending out more information about both of these online resources, once we get started using them in class.
It is going to be an AWESOME Week! I can't wait for us to get started!!
